Just something to think about. Have you ever failed to call a dive because you didn't want to ruin it for your buddy? Or, looking at it the other way, would it upset you if your buddy called the dive, when you really wanted to go?

Yes, back in my OW days. Since cavern, it was drilled so hard into my head to call a dive for any reason, if I have to pee (and don't have the valve hooked up), check my cell phone, or if I'm just hungry I'll call the dive.

I lived full time in Mexico for a year and dove almost every day. I've called a dive for a whole boat once because I knew when we got to the site the currents were ripping and there was no way some of the divers could do the dive safely, they were new and had few dives. There was relief in quite a few sets of eyes. I can only respect someone who calls a dive, for any reason.

No never failed to call a dive in order not to upset my buddy. But I have had several dives I did call and some I should have called in hindsight......

Since I work in the industry, I have to have a darn good reason to call a working dive but I have done so. I've called a few recreational dives with no regrets.

I can't think of any I've done that I really, really shouldn't have done although there have been a few where the thought crossed my mind but I couldn't just it on a gut feeling because I was working.

I am on the fence I guess. I was nervous of doing a dive, but went anyway. I was worried I would turn the dive too soon as my sac was much lower than the other divers. Conditions were rough, it was a shore dive, Bonaire, Lac Bay. The currents and surge and everything were so rough I ended up not being the one that turned it ( there is something to be said for being in shape).

In the end it worked out, but I really felt getting in that I should call it...

No ... but I called a dive once because it was obvious that my dive buddies wanted to call it and weren't about to "ruin it for everybody else". It was at a site called Duncan Rock ... which I've been to now three times and have yet to dive. Conditions looked pretty good till we got there, then it was obvious we'd be diving into some interesting (washing machine) current.

Looking around at the other five divers on the boat it was pretty obvious that we were all thinking the same thing, but nobody wanted to be the first to say it. So I said it ... "Ain't no way I'm diving in that". Everyone else quickly agreed, and we went somewhere else.

I'm going back in July ... hopefully the fourth try will be the charm ...

If ive got some sort of problem, not comfortable and so on i always call it.

However other things such as flooded drysuit, cold or bored i generally tough it out for 45 mins or so. So unpleasant i can live with if the buddy is happy.

It seems very common with the people i dive with for one person to call it and the other person to admit they were 30 seconds from doing the same so peoples thought process appears to be on the save wavelength as each other.

This a great point, sometimes it just takes someone to mention or signal it.
