Hi, I got given this unit, it turns fine and oil is clean. I am going to test run it then clean it up....

whats the best way to clean/repaint the main compressor?
what filtration has this unit got, also approx age guess?
service manual applicable?

thanks for advice I will probably be asking a lot of dumb questions, I am a reasonable diesel mech but no hp experience, used to own a coltri-sub so basic comp knowledge only.

Based in New Zealand.

thanks Peter

Basic is what air compressors are valves can be cleaned up all but bauer 3rd stage they must be replaced. Filter Techs can save you money on Bauer parts. If you R a diesel mech just go at it they are simple to work on. One last thing when you start a bauer at first without any back pressure it sounds like a rod knocking because the 3rd stage piston is a free floating piston. It takes a few compressions to stop the knocking. Good luck.

took to the compressor with simple green and an old toothbrush, its mainly dirt and grime and light oxidization, will clean some bits using an ultrasound bath, looks like I wont repaint much actually... been reading manuals and starting to understand the components a bit. Going to put it on a boat and tinker with it over next few weeks during quiet time.

Sealark - funny You should say that, I purchased another used utilus from the NZ Navy, they aution house that sold it said it makes a funny noise at startup, exactly that , 3rd stage knock that goes as soon as pressure builds. So I now have a fuly working one and a spare block only, so will put the block onto the rig and try it out next few weeks.
