Diving in Bali in August .

I have a couple of questions
I want to do the AOWD there.

1)Which is the best divesites in Bali during that time of the Season?
People say the best spots are 1)Menjangan 2)Tulamban 3)Nusa penida.

2)Which is the best place to dive from? Tulamban, Lovina,Menjangan or Kuta? I hate waking up early..Scuba for me is relaxation. Driving 4 hours up and down Bali is not my idea of relaxation.

3)Which is the best diveschools with good divemasters? recommendations?
I heard Tauch Terminal and Spicedive were recommended.

I was also planning to diving with my sister there. She has scuba experience, but just not the OWD. Where shoudl I take her for a easy dvetrip? Is Nusa Penida to difficult for her?(Is it difficult to me?)

Diving in Bali in August .

1) I would say Nusa Penida to see Mola mola and do some drift diving, Menjangan to get the best of viz of the wall. Tulamben is diveable all year round.

2) Depends on what you want, Nusa Penida can have the shortest trip in terms of transfer time, if you get there from south area, you can depart from Sanur with a speed boat for 45 minutes to get in Nusa Penida (northern and western area). f you go at 8:00 in the morning, you will get back to Sanur around 15:00 after 2 dives. If you stay at Tulamben, you can explore anything there and still relax since it is a shore diving mostly (except Batu Kelebit, Alamanda & Batu Belah).

3) There's a lot of good dive school here, however I would suggest Bali Scuba and Waterworx Bali .

4) Nusa Penida is not that difficult as long as the guide choose the easiest one which is located in the northern area.

Happy diving, contact me if you are in Bali. Let's have some beer.

Anyone knows the season for Mola Mola at Nusa Penida?

Any chance during September they will still stick around.

And Manta Rays and Hammerheads as well..

Thanks

I've seen Mola mola in Nusa Penida last July & August. According to some fellow divers there is no longer Mola mola season in Bali, it can be seen anytime. We always thought that Mola mola will appear during the cold water season (Australian winter), but now you can see them throughout the years. A friend of mine saw Mola mola during 28° Celcius water. Another fellow met them on April. Hopefully on my next trip to Nusa Penida on September will take me to Mola mola.
Manta rays and hammerhead can not be predictable. AFAIK, if you want to see Manta you should consider Derawan & Sangalaki or Komodo (Manta Alley). Hammerhead? The only time I saw them was in Gili Selang (east Bali) once and never saw them again in that place.

Great. My flight is in 40 hrs from now and pretty much in the mood now...

But work is starting to pile up... I can just imagine the Molas eyeballing me! yeah!

I dived in Bali last month. Both Tulamben and Nusa Penida are a must. I used ENA dive center and won't mind to recommend them.

There's one new dive site (actually not that new, but not many people know). It's called Seraya, close to Tulamben area. If you go there with the right guide (macro specialist), you will find many interesting stuff. In one dive I encountered harlequin ghost pipefish (Solenostomus paradoxus), various uncommon nudibranch (can not find the species in Debelius book), almost all species of lionfish, lots of moray eels, many juvenile fishes from any species, crocodile fish.
I plan to dive there again with Romon or Menyun, whose eyes are well trained to spot uncommon and difficult-to-find small critters. I guess this is a heaven for macro photographer.

I will be headed to bali in the beginning of august, doing a lot of diving in bali, then moving east to komodo and so forth. i have 18 days to travel in Indonesia, arriving in surobaya on the 1st of AUgust, and then moving to Bali asap...

What is the best way to get to Bali from Surobaya?

I would be happy to meet and greet and dive with any Bali-folk, as my travel mate doesnt dive.

This thread is chock full of info, but much of it seems to be from 2 years ago...

Thanks,
Danny

From Surabaya it's the best to fly, airfare only USD 30 one way, avoiding the hassle of travelling ona bus for 12 hours.
For your diving and non diving trip in Bali you can contact Simon A. Gilbert. While for Komodo, I would say Grand Komodo with its good and solid team can help you organize various diving trip around Komodo. Just went to Komodo with them and I am very happy with their services. They will also help you arranging the flight.
