Just my take on the Komodo dragons, but I've seen huge monitor lizards before but not the dangerous ones on Komodo. To me, it's no big thing and I would never spend a bunch of time take planes, boats and automobiles to see them on one trip.

You think that you won't be returning to Indonesia again but ask everyone else here who believed that, whether or not they returned, despite believing that it would be a one time trip.

I doubt we will travel from USA East coast to this part of world again so we are trying to not it all in. I appreciate your feedback!
I have quite a few friends from USA East coast who doubted that they would travel to this part of the world again. Well, they caught the bug I had. I’ve been to Raja Ampat 11 times & Komodo 7 times.

Dang..... Had a Raja Ampat 2 week trip planned with a buddy but he had to have surgery.

You are most likely to see The Dragon at Komodo National Park. It is a guided tour, as the dragons are well fed so NOT very lively at all.
You really have to decide if it is worth the slight risk of missing your flight to Sorong. LoB to R4 is quite expensive unless you are staying at the Homestay.
Have a nice trip.

@pinkpony He's right, the biggest dragons are well fed or (on narkoba?)... LoL

I got about 30cm within range of a big, fat dragon, squatting down for a pic,... didn't feel the least bit threatened, it was just there in deep relaxation.

BUT, less than an hour before, another fellow foreign tourist said she'd seen, a growing small/medium sized dragon, run-up and killed and ate a small monkey.

Also, I seen the cutest wild boar piglet there, just standing around, was great to see,.. really nice pattern on coat.

I just love cruising the seas, in that part of the world ❤️

Good luck 🤞🏻

The Dragons were cool to see, and the walk through the park has some amazing views. We saw four dragons, and the most any of the four moved was it changing which side of the ground it was laying its head. Would I make two separate flights from Bali and the boat ride to/from the park/harbor just for two hours on the island and nothing else? No. Not at all.

Everyone is different, and God knows I love complicating my travel schedule, but this idea would be a hard pass for me.

Saw dragons on the beach from a diving RIB. Never felt like dinner before. It was unsettling. The dragons in the park were much less interested, and interesting as well. Definitely worth doing, but not an entire day trip to do unless you are sure it will be your only opportunity, then I say go for it. Put me on the list of a once in a lifetime trip turning into the first of many return trips :)
