Not a problem with these.

True, but I wouldn't do that to myself.
Too bad, I did and I have no regrets. They make diving, particularity at Casino Point so much more fun.
What's that old saying about old dogs or is that leading a horse to water but....

I would love to respond if only I knew your meaning...
PM sent.

All the time. That's cos the boats here all use:

Why don't all dive boats used these?

That's the kind of ladders used on boats here in the Great Lakes. Love them.

Helpless without fins in the water?

No. Why would I be helpless without fins in the water? My mobility may be hampered but I shouldn't be "helpless". I can ditch the gear and swim with just my hands and feet like I normally swim.

This is what we hope to avoid and the purpose of the thread I would think.

And even if we were to lose our handhold/footing and fell back into the ocean finless, all we have to do is tell the divemaster/deck hand to throw the fins back to us.

Yeah, that's a good contingency plan...:surprised

I suppose the fins-around-the-wrist thing is cool for some people, but as far as I'm concerned it's a hindrance and a safety issue. You got crap flopping around your wrist, slapping about, catching on things when you try to climb up a ladder with around 70-100lbs of gear on your back.

Most all experienced ocean divers I am around practice this commonsense procedure. All most reckless to advise otherwise with all due respect...

I thought that the purpose is to survive without fins?

What's bad about it? The deck hand that handles your fins are but a couple of feet away. Even if the waves were 8-ft tall, once you establish positive buoyancy, you're not going to sink, fins or no fins.

There are plenty of experienced SoCal ocean divers practice the procedure of handing fins to deck hands. With all due respect, you and your buddies aren't the only ones that have experiences or trainings in ocean diving.

This whole thread makes me think that SB is made up of double amputees.

If you're not wearing your fins, use your arms! You do it in the pool, you did it in Gym class and believe it or not, you can swim without fins and with the help of your arms still today.
