jeez guys take a breath :) BTW little quiz

What Special Service Group has won the US Army sniper Schools sniping competition 2 years running?

Hint; they served in Afganistan with the 10th mountain division and the boys from the 10th who worked with them listed em as the #1 thing to take into combat. I think 10+ kills from over 1500 meters a few gongs and alot of respect

Hey Lawman, I assumed that you had a far broader worldview. How wrong I was. Surely a case of believing your own movies and one-sided journalism. And as for empires, look what happened to the Romans; their empire fell from within. I wont say any more than that for I fear your beyond hope of deblinkering. I’m sure most Americans who have lived outside of the country for any length of time would be quite amused by your last post

Northeastwrecks once bubbled...
Today's soldier cannot be stupid. There are too many ways for stupid people to die.

Putting aside the politics that drive deployment, the modern US military is highly skilled and far from stupid. This sounds like a generational issue. Your experience is more current than Lawman's by decades. Living in a town with a large military component, I'm impressed by the intelligence and credentials of all branches. An active USMC master sargeant I dive with has a college degree and several post graduate specialties. I don't think one can make NCO anymore without a diploma. A colonel I dated for a while (yes, they are women now) and other friends in uniform have more than one masters degrees. You can't advance without good grades and degrees.

And if one pays attention to obituaries, the Americans dying for their country these days aren't kids. Most seem to be in their late twenties to mid- thirties. They know the risks that they take. That, to me, is valor.

Ok so no one bit eh answer is JS1 our Canuck Spec ops guys. BTW they have been in Afganistan since the beginning and are very good....of course they have to ride to work in 1965 Chevies but what the hell eh Its not just a job its an adventure

:)

God! How I love this! Ranting and raving about whether America is the center of the world...Of course it is! Nobody said it would last forever. Empires come and empires go. Right now, we're the big cheese and I'm enjoying it. As for the writer from England[ thats the island where Great Britain used to be] I'll bet it is bitter to be left with Admirals, bands and the Royals.
As for who wins wars, our history is that everyday people win wars not gym class stars. They're what get the everyday kids from small towns to join up. Well trained as they may be, we arn't fighting a war with a 10 division army. We fight skirmishes in Grandada and Iraq with them. I agree that the current military is much smarter than the 1960s & 70s. Volunteers, high school grads and women. If we get into it with a real enemy like China it's going to take a lot of ordinary people...even diving instructors!

are you really that stupid?

america is the centre of the world on a american map, but view a proper map from GMT and you guys are way to the left.

what is to be bitter about having a heritage and history?

what history do you have 200 years

the little island as you put it was the last great empire, and won more wars than you have had hot dinners

as for the royals, when i went to california, all i got was the royals this and the royals that, princess dia this and that, you have a love affair with our heritage just as much as us.

the big cheese economy that everyone wants to join?

your economy is in recline, and you are trying to pull the rest of the world with you.

you are the biggest producers of green house gases, you do not want to police yourself, but are happy to stick your nose into other countries affairs.

you are exactly the sort of american that gives american people a bad name around the world.........an ignorant, loud mouth (everything is bigger and better in the good old US of A) narrow minded fool :bonk:

Now being a typical Canadian this is where I plead for all nations to come together in Brotherhood and friendship, thow a jab at the US and crawl in my foxhole till the Brits start on the Yanks. then the aussies start on the Brits. Me and my buddies crawl behind the bar for free booze and ride out the storm :) heheh Just like the Pearl Harbour EM's club in 1978 heheh nothin changes cept I think that time there was about 1 million in Damages ohhhh those big freakin windows the Aussies were throwin Brits thru man did they make a racket

:bounce: :boxing:

Hey Lawman I seem to remember last time we got into “a real enemy like China” the USA and the Brits got their asses well kicked. And not long ago when China was giving Taiwan grief the USA sent down a carrier group and was told (by the Chinese) in no uncertain terms to go away. Be very careful who think of as an enemy. Remember my post when I mentioned empires falling from within, just how many Chinese do you think are in the USA. Not counting the ones that are sending top secret information back home. For an attorney you don’t seem quick to catch on so I’ll tell you where the Chinese kicked ass. Korea, yes the war they don’t like to make movies about, the war where little guys with minimum weapons but plentiful farm implements overwhelmed highly trained, well equipped, well educated western soldiers. In fact the west has always had an hard time whenever trying to subdue any of these far eastern people haven't they? They now also have the bomb. Do not let the recent successes fool you into thinking that the west can do anything, technology has failed us in the past and will again. Then we have to get down and dirty with the so called enemy. Every year the western soldier is becoming better educated and softer. Yes I said it softer flame me if you like but those of you who have a military back ground are aware of this. Third world people suffer hardships as part of daily life while we have it easy. Anyone who does not think we are getting softer should look at their parents, was their life as easy as yours?
I respect your patriotism Lawman, but that kind of narrow minded view will send a lot of brave young people to their deaths. Win we may, but is the ultimate cost worth it to the soldier, taxpayer, parent or anyone else scarred by war.
