Lets see....I graduated from Airborne School in the Army...I'm a SCUBA diver, I had Infantry training....I really like fish...I've got a short haircut...I wear a size 48 coat and a size 5 hat...

HEY! I'm a SEAL!!

Patience

That was a great special. They a did a little on Military, law enforcement, and the snipers who protect the president.

I was glued to the TV, it was a great special.

Not Special Forces?

They may not be classified as “special forces” but it don’t get any more special than the Marine sniper course. Judging by the SAS and SBS guys that have failed it.

What a bunch of crap! All of these outfits exist to recruit 17 year old bullet sponges. You don't win wars with people because they get A+ in gym class. The US wins wars with little dim bulbs like Audie Murphy that turn into stone killers when given a chance. The rest is just military showbuisness.:doctor:

what wars would they be?

since WWII there haven't been that many.

some one has been watching too many films and believing the show business.

there has been nam, korea, cuba, grenada, the gulf.

what others have there been?

which ones can you honestly say you won?

we may have won WWII, but we then rebuilt Japan and Germany, who went on to become world economy leaders, so who realy won and who lost?

OK Lawman I agree with you. A good percentage of the special forces/military supermen is just pure crap to entice gullible you people to swell the ranks. As for winning wars by turning dim wits into “stone cold killers” I think that’s a bunch of crap. Wars are fought on a basis of economics, pure and simple. Someone has to be making money or getting voted in for another term (in order to make more money). Not how many people are killed, do you really think the big boys care about that. The US wins wars with money not Audie Murphy type characters.
Clive also has a point who really wins a war? I’ll tell you. Again it’s the big players, you know the big industrialists the ones who put governments into power. The same one’s that get the contracts to rebuild broken countries. They always win. When Audie Murphy goes to church to pray to god not to be killed the big players are going to the bank to pray to the green god dollar.
Judging by your occupation I would guess that you probably fight life and death wars in the courtroom. So you probably understand these concepts better than anyone.

My point is that the US wins wars [as opposed to skirmishes] by converting ordinary guys into excellent soldiers. Audie Murphy was a good example of the most ordinary, little guy that became a very talented killer. He could never be a SEAL and barely got in the army yet we turned out thousands of these guys in two major wars.

As to winning wars, that isn't necessary. We're a new kind of empire and we have to protect our borders even if they're thousands of miles away. The US doesn't want to take over other countries...it wants to do business with them.

We can't lose a war. If we stop recognizing a country or enemy they wither on the vine or sell themselves to us to get in on the world economy. Cuba withers. The bigest employer in Viet Nam is the Nike shoe company. North Korea starves. The former USSR is rapidly becoming NATO. We always win.

Your attitude is crap.

When I enlisted in the Army, I had already earned my B.S. in engineering from one of the higher rated schools in the U.S.

The people with whom I worked were not "little dim bulbs". In my 10 man team, all of us spoke at least one foreign language (including Russian, French, German and Arabic). Other skills included demolitions and combat engineering, sniper, heavy weapons, medical and intelligence. We were air assault qualified. One member had crypto training.

8 of the 10 members had undergraduate degrees. Two had advanced degrees (One Russian, One Arabic).

This was typical of the units in which I served.

Today, the discharged members of my old unit include two lawyers, one member of the foreign service, a paramedic instructor and a stock broker.

Hardly the dim little bulbs that you describe.

Today's soldier cannot be stupid. There are too many ways for stupid people to die.

this is exactly the kind of attitude that pis*es the rest of the world off!

Lets get one thing sorted out, America is not the centre of the world or universe, contrary to what you believe (Cairo is actually the centre of the earth/world!).

You guys can loose a war, and history can and often does repeat it self.

Life is not a movie where america saves the day, it takes co-operation from the other millions of people who live here as well.

for someone who is supposed to be a law man ie educated you have a VERY blinkered outlook on the rest of the world, and if you think every country is going to drop at your feet, then you are going to have a very rude awakening!

disclaimer: not all amaricans have this attitude to the rest of the world (hopefuly) and the above is not aimed at them, just the blinkered.
