Ok. So this is kind of embarrassing but a thinner dowel worked like a charm. I didn’t have any smaller dowel stock on hand. Which is why I was using something too thick I guess. I found some disposable chop sticks that the wife had in the drawer and it worked great. Thank you everyone.

Screw it in again, put some liquid sillicone from the top into the barrel and screw it out again, shouldn't be a problem anymore.
If still, put a small piece of cotton into the barrel from the orifice side, put the dowel on the table with the barrel on top and use gently a small hammer on the top of the barrel, piece of cake........
Ah, okay, already done, congrats.....

I would have suggested the same. Have been using the same method for yrs. Make sure the chop sticks is made from soft wood rather than plastic.
I never use silicone grease because of the difficulty in removing it.
