It's a case of you clamping down and biting VERY hard. The stuff they make the new Comfo-Bite mouthpieces out of is very tough. Time to relax while diving...the mouthpieces are there to hold the reg in your mouth, not to bite down on. :)

Question - you mentioned the mouthpiece is made of tough stuff. So it should not torn after doing 4 dives, even with biting, right??

I mean all my 4 dives are pretty relax dive with no stressful condition or seeing anything exciting! I don't recall clamping real hard on the mouth piece...

At my university we use Apeks regs with the older style Comfo-Bite mouthpieces made out of a slightly different compound. These are used in the pool by new divers, several hours per day, at least 4 days per week. Some have been bitten through, many others are still fine.
The newer translucent compound seems even rubberier and more resistant than what's on the regs mentioned above.

Sounds to me like you're really chomping down even though you don't think you are.

Thanks, I guess I just need to be more mindful next time!

I put the Comfo-Bite mouthpiece on all of my regs. Instead of focusing on biting down hard, the best thing to do is let the mouthpiece just stick to the roof of my mouth and just close my teeth very gently, which takes the pressure off of my teeth and jaws. You should not have to bite down hard on a mouthpiece that fits you well.

I have tried the Seacure once, and it was so long it gagged me. I would have to trim the length from the back and mold it to my mouth before I would ever even consider trying it again. However, with the Comfo-Bite, there's no need for me to try anything else because I'm so satisfied with it.

I'm thinking about ordering a Comfo-Bite mouthpiece, but whenever I look at the ordering options, I only see a choice of colors, not sizes. Does anyone know if the Comfo-Bite mouthpiece is available in a size that will fit an Oceanic Delta reg?

I have never known any mouthpiece to not fit on any particular reg.
Although I'm sure it could happen.

The reason why I asked is that the SeaCure mouthpiece comes in three different models (see link) to accomodate different brands of regulators, but after reading the page at the link I get the impression that the difference has more to do with the lip at the edge than the size of the orifice. Maybe that's not an issue with Comfo-Bite mouthpieces. Has anyone here used one on an Oceanic reg?

I put a comfobite on my Oceanic GT3. I was able to stretch it over the opening without a problem.

I'm also one who really likes the comfobite mouthpiece and prefer it to any others that I've tried. I like the way it allows me to keep the mouthpiece in place by loosely closing my mouth instead of having to bite down with my back teath.

I like my comfo-bites on all of my regulators.

Hi guys, I’ll chime in with my $.02 here. I have used a number of “special” mouthpieces over the years and rate them like this:

Tied for first place
  • Aqualung “ComfoBite”
  • Sherwood “Wisdom mouthpiece”
A close second
  • Atomic “Dual Silicone” mouthpiece
I hear lots of my customers love the Seacure, but I have never tried it myself. The one thing I can say for sure is that I will never go back to that standard mouthpiece. Having to bite it just to keep it in my mouth gets real old real fast.
