I picked up my new apeks TX50 last night, and can't wait to dive it, there is one problem..... the mouth piece, is very comfortable, but kinda makes me gag...... any body else have any problems with it, I am gonna switch it to a regular style i guess, unless i can get used to it, any tricks?

I have used a few of those 'comfort' mouthpieces on rental gear. I can't stand them. They always make my front teeth ache. I always have to swap them with the standard ones on the octopus.

I also have to swallow to equalise, which I find tricky when you have the bit that stops your tounge touching the roof of your mouth.

Yesterday I took delivery of an ATX50/ATX40 combo. Guess what mouthpiece the ATX50 had. Yep a so called comfort one. I'll have to remove it before I dive.

I don't really like the mouthpiece that came on my Apeks regs either. I switched them to Seacure mouthpieces, which in my opinion are the most comfortable. In case you haven't heard about the Seacure, you heat it in boiling water, then bite it and it molds to your teeth. I can't imagine a mouthpiece being more comfortable. You can do a search for Seacure and get lots of info on them.

Seconds on the Seacure. The mouthpiece bite surface is much longer than a conventional mouthpiece and distributes the torque from the 2nd stage all along the occlusal surfaces of your teeth = no jaw fatigue! I've donated my primary 2nd. stage to my buddies in air-sharing drills and they always comment on how comfortable the Seacure fits even though it's moulded specifically to my teeth. I have three of them on my regs - and no, I don't own Seacure or work for them!

For me, I like the comfobite. I have found that the black ones tend to make me gag a little but the milky white and clear ones do not. Don't know why but that is my experience.

Very happy with my black comfobite.

As well I am happy with my comfobite mouth piece as well, probably since I have only owned Aqua-Lung regulators.

Huh.. never had such a problem. I like the one that came on my Apeks. Less of a hassle when doing S drills than the custom jobs as well.

I have the seacure... after a bout of TMJ and 2 days on a liquid diet I put that seacure on.

I have the comfo-bite on my Apeks TX50 and my USD DS4. I have always had to swallow to equalize right. I do find it a tad bit more difficult but nothing that I couldn't get used to. The regular ones make my jaw hurt on long dives so I definitely like the comfo-bite ones
