Scuba_Steve:
You seem to being skipping over the points made here.

Why don't you get the details of what your course(s) will consist of, and get back to us.

For most the Nitrox course is a totally separate course from the AOW program, as it is a Specialty, and so it has costs over and above the "regular" AOW course. Is your nitrox a cert course or is it a "discover/adventure" dive.

To make a fair comparison you need to look at the details.

OK, for the navigation course it's about building up your navigation skills.(natural and compass)
Wreck course=learn to participate in non-penetration wreck dives(eqipment selection and use, risks, planning, and techniques
Deep dive=plan and execute deep dives down to 130FSW, learn to conduct deco dives
SDI Computer Nitrox course=fundamentals of Nitrox diving with 22%-44%nitrox, planning and executing nitrox dives with computer. (this not the TDI Nitrox dive which is more in depth)

anything else?

OK so the nitrox is not the nitrox course, just the (PADI Parlance) "Discover/Adventure" dive. At least this is how I read it.

Good.

When I saw you state Nitrox, I wanted to be sure whether it was the entire course or not before I stepped into do-do, since I offer a combo AOW/Nitrox course and it's a different price than the straight-up AOW.

I should have also asked you how many dives total are they requiring for the entire course.

I'm just not too apt to jump on the price of a course when I don't know the particulars, as they can be night and day, and price means very little on what is or isn't done. You may find for the money, your course may indeed be longer, have more dives etc than what you are comparing it to.

Give me a minute and I'll re-read your previous post again.

LOL

OK, except for the guy who bought his instructor lunch..........LOL

The PADI courses as you can see cost about 250-300 including book (single book for all).

SDI: you guys seem to pay by the course........it's about $100 incl book from the examples I see. So that's $400.00

From what little I know about SDI courses (I know a guy who's an instructor for them and we have spoken briefly about it) it seems to me the SDI course may be in greater detail than the standard padi version. I do not know personally.

Seems to me you're paying the "standard" SDI fee. Charter fees are rarely included except where noted in this thread. (Liveaboards etc where it's convenient).

It's standard fare around our parts that they are not included in the course package.

I recall the SDI Instructor telling me once that it's a little harder to sell the SDI version to students because of the requirements, when they see that they can pay less for the Padi course.

Score one for padi getting the fee, minus one for the student in some cases.

Again, that's what he said, but I can't tell you the specifics. Hopefully we'll fall over an SDI Instructor that can set us straight here, but it doesn't seem out of line to me.

Be happy, get your money's worth with lots of questions. :)

My recent AOW course was $179, + $40 for book, + tax, with 5 shore dives, free air fills. Took Nitrox certification course at the same time for $50, + $40 for book & tables, + tax, plus $16 for two nitrox fills. All NAUI.

That's a fair price for the Nitrox course TASea.

Seems your AOW falls in-line with the 250-300 as well.

I'm thinking I'd try to haggle a bit with the SDI guy and f'naggle a full cert Nitrox course myself, rather than the Computer Nitrox Diver.

I see little value with just having an "Intro to Nitrox" (That's my term for what it looks like) if you can't use it for Nitrox fills afterwards.

If the computer nitrox diver is a full cert, OK, but if not, it's useless when TDI's full is from the ground up, no previous experience needed, one day course anyway.

We charge $295 including the Adventures in Diving pack, certification card, 5 boat dives, tanks, AND a hotel room in the Keys (usually Marathon) or the East Coast (usually Pompano). The location is dictated by weather and/or student preference.

We also offer the Nitrox academic work a night or two before the class starts at a huge discount for students diving the AOW course that weekend.
