I'm not a serious freediver and i've grown accustomed to my Aqualung dry snorkel. I have a Mares Dual whatever J tube but I don't like it because water always gets in the tube. I decided to hell with J tubes. Are there particular characteristics of snorkels you do and don't like? A large bore may not be as important to you as an active freediver. It is sort of a compromise between size/hydrodynamic drag, simplicity/reliability, dealing with splashing water in sloppy seas, breathing resistance, and ergonomic preferences.
Most serious freedivers go for a simple J snorkel unless maybe the surface is really agitated. Many Scuba divers prefer a flex tube at the mouthpiece.
Do you recommend the SV1? The Aqualung dry snorkel I have has a little too much resistance in airflow. I'm willing to give up some dryness as long as I have a purge valve if that helps with airflow.
