Sealing any reg helps prevent freezing in cold water in general, piston or diaphragm

Atomic 2nds have the AFC, so the orifice is open when unpressurized; so when soaking keep the 1sts a bit higher than the 2nds to avoid water ingress up the hose reaching the 1st stage

If you do only fresh water, probably all you need is a quick rinse instead of soaking anyway
Thanks, will do

Z2s, but I believe there’s only one main diff (not sure); the monel piston in z3 vs SS[/USER] )
The difference between the Z2 and Z3 is the swivel hose and the purge cover bling. Nothing else. The monel piston is in the M1 and Ti series regs.

You are conflating two different features of the second stage. The Automatic Flow Control (AFC) eliminates the need to manually adjust the Venturi effect, which is what controls how air flows around the second stage housing of a regulator. Has nothing to do with the orifice.

As part of the assembly the orifice has a wave washer. When not pressurized the wave washer pushes the orifice away from the LP seat. As such, it is possible for water to enter through the inlet tube and into the hose. If the regulator is soaked such that the first stage is below second stage any air will escape and be replaced with water in the first stage. It is prevented by soaking while pressurized, which is usually not practical. Or by soaking each stage separately.

That makes alot more sense, I am a huish dealer but I am unsure on the service packs I need to buy. Could you give me a little help?

I’d like to reclaim my noob card please 😅

Didn’t realize that the Monel stuff was not for the Z line, the preowned T2X I got has a monel piston/seat retainer and I’m considering to downgrade it to SS piston already (can’t source the Ti retainer tho); so maybe I projected my dilemma onto the Z

It is pretty easy as all the AA regs are the same mechanical wise. So one just gets the first stage service kits as well as the second stage service kits. The first stage service kits will have a few "extra" o-rings for DIN vs Yoke. The second stage service kits will have extra bits for servicing the comfort swivel hose.

I have two Z2's in training fleet. No issues with using it in training (I don't rent equipment to divers who aren't taking courses with me). I don't rinse Atomic regulators pressurized at all, never did without any issues (not my personal regulators nor training fleet regulators).

The issue with water leaking in to the first stage through the second stage because of the seat saver feature is grossly exaggerated.

Do you know what tools I would need to buy for my dive shop? Also do you happen to have the service manuals?

Also do you happen to have the service manuals?

If you are an official dealer, you should be getting these through the Huish dealer portal.

Contact your Huish rep. to get started with training and getting the proper tools.

Ditto the above. DEMA was just last month and the mfg usually hold reg service seminars. Which you will want to do for shop liability reasons. scubatools.com is where most get the necessary tools. Many are need to have, some are nice to have.

Huish was not at DEMA. I know stupid. The way to get servcing from them is to go to a Mexican vacation were you learn to service...
