I'd try to get some local divers from here to come with me, but I think the 10-hour trip might be a bit much for them. For me? Not so much. :D

If I can save a few bucks camping, I would be grateful (considering what it's going to cost me in gas to get there), but I'd come regardless, provided I'm not pre-booked. As far as scheduling goes, I don't know when my rescue diver checkout trip will be, but I know it'll be on one weekend out of September 22-24 (probably too early), October 20-22 (most likely), or November 17-19 (doubtfully), and don't forget Vortoberfest, but other than that, I'm game, so let's do it, eh?

Concerning a cleanup dive at the MegaDive that I previously mentioned, I have been in contact with Ginnie management. The person that I recieved an email from is checking with their boss concerning how much Ginnie will be involved , etc. I do doubt that waiving of the camping fees will be included. However, at the cleanup dive I participated in earlier this year, the park did provide us with some rather nice incentives. I don't want to say what the incentives were, as I am not sure what exactly will be the case here, but suffice to say that no one seemed dissapointed.

As far as dates, it is really looking like the last weekend in October for the MegaDive. The cleanup dive will most likely occur on Saturday the 28th.

Check the link in my earlier post for more details on the MegaDive weekend.

I was there this past weekend(25-26), and the river was really bad. I was with a pretty large dive group, and everyone that drift dove the Santa Fe commented on its litter problem. A cleanup is a really good idea, but isn't that a privately owned site? I know that the springs themselves are private, does that include that portion of the river? It was really a festive site this weekend, lots of floats, lots of people, and lots of beer cans and bottles. I can only imagine how bad it will look after the upcomming holiday weekend.

The land access is privately owned. All waterways are state owned, if I understand correctly, including the springs.

STITCH, I am about to send you a second PM.

David,

That last one was fun,I'm ready to do another one.
Call or PM me if you hear any details or dates for a clean-up dive.
Would be great to do this again.

Even better with a few more surface support boats
and enough divers to clean it all the way to boat ramp.

And, Yes, you've got it.
Any navigatable waterway including springs and runs
Up to the point of normal waterline/waters edge
are considered non private and open to public use.

Take special note to properties that are posted as
"No Trespassing", or armed owners for that matter.
I have heard of several land owners taking offense
to divers and other spring-crashers.
