Anyone ever DIY zipper repair?

I played with my dead zipper and a woodburning iron works pretty well and leaves a smooth melt. It is really easy to overdo it.

As soon as I finish installing my Ti-Zip in my primary suit I will carefully melt the edges on my secondary suit's zipper to preserve it as long as possible.

I found it interesting that DUI does not glue their zippers in. They run 2 lines of parallel stitching to secure the zipper (no glue underneath) and then seal the stitch lines and the inner edge with a bead (one continuous bead does both tasks) of AquaSeal. I plan on installing the Ti-Zip the same way.
 
Turns out the zipper has bigger problems than some fraying. Back to DUI she goes.
