All very well with diving opening around the world, but what about getting in and out of various countries?

Some rules are changing and to be honest here in UAE the numbers are relatively low compared to Europe and North America where many people seem to prefer their "freedom" over health, so much so that the EU is thinking of banning flights from the US.

Here in UAE we've been wearing masks since March (no recorded deaths from lack of oxygen to date), the US$819 fine for not wearing one in public is a reasonable deterrent.

The dive centre I use has been operating with regular cleaning of their boats between trips, and everyone has been following the UAE government regulations, none of us want to catch this virus.

My main concern however is getting into that giant metal tube and breathing recycled air from hundreds of passengers for several hours, not quite comfortable with that at present.

I'm not looking to June, but to August. Both Egypt and French Polynesia will be open. Trying to figure out which is better for a relatively new teen diver who has only been to the Bahamas. Sharm El Sheikh is certainly the better value, but FP seems like their opening plan is better with more rigorous testing requirements. Which has more life and better coral?

Belize Will Reopen its International Airport on August 15

The Government of Belize, announced June 25 via virtual press conference, confirmed that Philip Goldson International Airport (BZE) will reopen on August 15 to international travellers. The decision to reopen Belize’s international airport, which was closed due to COVID-19 restrictions in early-March, was made in conjunction with Belize’s Ministry of Health and took into consideration the ongoing guidance from the World Health Organization (WHO) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in the United States. To date, Belize has recorded a total of 23 cases of COVID-19 and 2 deaths.

Moreover, the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) has simultaneously launched their reopening plans for hotels, restaurants and tour operators. The new guidelines outline the enhanced health and safety protocols which are being introduced as part of the Government of Belize, the Belize Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Health, and the BTB’s commitment to keep Belizeans, tourism dependent communities, and visitors safe from the risks related to Sudden Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-COV-2) that causes COVID-19. With the release of these protocols, Belize’s tourism industry can prepare for the international arrivals of travellers starting August 15, 2020.

Upon the airport reopening, travellers will be subject to new guidelines set out for entry, which will include a COVID-19 test and some limitations.

Nautilus Belle Amie is currently running a trip in the Sea of Cortez this week. They had been hoping to get to Socorro and had Port permits but apparently the Mexican Navy who control the area around Socorro blocked them from going there. For July 16-24 they plan to run a trip from Cabo to Ensanada, diving th best along the Pacific coast of Baja. They still have spaces at great rates and as the boat has only 8 booked, there would be a good chance of getting your own cabin. My colleague Kirsten will be on that trip and you can contact her or myself if you want more details.

We were hoping to go somewhere end of June, maybe for a couple weeks. Anywhere open?? Saw that Hawaii still requires 14 day quarantine for those coming in... Bahamas MIGHT open in July, BVI shut down. What’s open?
Ireland is still open to the US.

There are some limited spaces available on the Rocio del Mar to the Midriff Islands in the Sea of Cortez. The travel route is to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, a shuttle across the border to Puerto Pensaco, and embark the liveaboard there. The Sea of Cortez is rich in marine life and the area around Bahia de Los Angeles is a calving ground for whale sharks. Excellent diving.

Hi Greg - yes there are and we charter and represent them as well but the Mexico land borders are not yet open so although a a great trip, one cannot get there until they do. Maybe in early August but could be later and nobody can say until they lift it. Cheers Dom
