We are constantly monitoring what is open and what restrictions are in place and here is an overview of those dive destination that might be of interest to Scubaboard members. Please note these can change by the day as Govt ministers make decisions and announcements.
For your information, although many countries are looking to open and although one may find flights listed online, they may not necessarily be operating. Some countries currently require quarantine from 7-14 days and others require you have proof of a negative Corona test from within 36-72 hours of boarding the flight. A lot of hurdles and uncertainty at this time and unless one is pressed to travel for personal reasons, we advise not making plans until July, when we hope that more clarification might surface. Many liveaboards with whom we work will actually accept a booking without deposit as long as restrictions are in place. Of course these can be cancelled without penalty.
Bahamas will be amongst the first to open at the beginning of July
Belize airports are currently closed and although no official announcement, they look like they may also open beginning of July.
Cayman Islands probably closed until September
Turks & Caicos are aiming for July 22 but that can change.
BVI open to returning residents but 14 day quarantine in place.
USVI still subject to quarantine so I doubt that you can dive there.
Mexico open this month but not necessarily all their parks are accessible to divers. Sea of Cortez is probably good option for mid-July.
Costa Rica aiming to open early July
Ecuador also aiming for early July
French Polynesia July 15
Azores early July
Fiji now looking at August as earliest open.
FYI – although Indonesia may open sooner, the official statement appears to say that they plan to open Bali in October.
A lot of mixed messages so stay tuned.
