For the underwater scenes, tho, I tend to watch her technique and equipment. Very fancy scooters, with tanks on board, but I would have wanted a pony, too. When she came to the big chamber with air trapped in the thousands year old temple, she simply popped her mask and reg, breathing in the air there....

My chief gripe was the fact that they seemed to have to go awfully deep to get to the temple in the first place. Even assuming teh atmosphere in the temple was breathable, it would have had to be at ambient pressure, and I didn't see her or her buddies even consdering deco stops? And what an ascent rate!

Watched some of the Special Features about making the movie, and I was sorry to hear that she likes heights, but did not like being underwater. Dang, I was hoping to invite her - to anything!

I'm the opposite - don't like heights at all. I don't seem to have a problem with depths however...........

"When she came to the big chamber with air trapped in the thousands year old temple, she simply popped her mask and reg, breathing in the air there; I would have feared methane!! Then they all light road flares?! If the oxygen content in the air bubble was any good when they got there, how long could it last...?!"

If thats not classic geek over analysis then I don't know what is.

Please don't tell me you live in your mom's garage/ basement

:royal:

Just back from Cozumel; what's goin gon here? When I left, this was a good place to talk. Did something change this week?

Okay, now I'm a geek because I think? Sure that was a movie, but I'm thinking: "If a temple several thousands of years under water has 'air' in it, wouldn't it be from methane peruclating up from the volcanic activity already established to be in the area? Or, have I read too many DAN fatality reports? Am I not supposed to think about them either? And burning torches woulnd't deplete whatever O2 was available? My Mensa group meets tomorrow night, I think; I'll run this by them.

Oh that's fine, paper pusher. If you want to insult me, just back it up.

Otherwise, "Angelina should make a terrific diver, she's already got lips like a fish. " Gorgeous, aren't they? But I think it's collagen, not botox - which is used on wrinkles, I believe.

Please, anyone who knows more than I do, feel free to correct me...

The only woman I'd totally rule out would be one who fell on the lower slope of the Gaussian distribution for intelligence.

Dr. Bill

Gotta agree with ya on this one Doc!

I'll add my pig comment though and say they can't come from the shallow end of the gene pool either!

Dumb and ugly is no way to go through life!

Let the comments flow.

I had to go and rent the movie last night. I had seen it in the theater, but I had forgotten the details. There is a lot of realistic 'stuff' in the movie.

I guess sharks growl, and when you punch them in the nose, they get scared. Maybe they used stock audio from the movie 'Dogs and Cats'.

I have to admit though, she is eye candy in her wetsuit. And those grouper like lips, yooouuuch! She can dye her hair any color she wants!

Mensa Group. .in texas?

why not
:grad:

Yeah, we moved American Mensa's HQ from Brooklyn to Texas a few years ago, even.

None of the othes in my local group dive, but they totally agreed with my thoughts and DAN fatality reports: If there's a trapped gas pocket in a cave or other overhead enviroment, don't try to breath it, and certainly don't use buring flares. It's probably got a high CO2 content with low O2 at best, or in an area known to have volcanic activity - Methane is a real risk. It was just a movie, not be be taken seriously, but I always watch how the entertainment industry illustrates our sport to the masses. :thinkof:

:sharky:

Yeah, I skipped mentioning the shark scene as it was just way too far out! In the flick, she was using the shark for a ride to the surface, as if the fish is going to go to air when punched, :giggle: as if she can't do an emergency ascent ala DrBill, as if she's not going to get an embolism from the ride. Worse part of the diving scenes, but - at least it publicized the sport.
