Ft Wetherill entry and depth is the reason RI gets peole from all over the east coast. The Ocean State dive shop nearby in Jamestown has a fun dive every sat and sun at 10 am free of charge to serve as a local orientation to diving in the area.

Sounds like i might have to make a trip...its a bit of a drive, but it sounds like a great place! Thanks all

Cathedral Rocks in Rockport, MA offers depths to 80ft or so. It's a bit of a tough walk down to the entry point over some gigantic boulders, but it isn't anything ridiculous.

So the entry/exit at Cathedral isn't the death trap its made out to be?

Not if you dive it at high tide...it's just a bit of a hike bringing you and your gear down the pile of boulders. Have someone go with you and show you 'the path' to get down to the giant stride rock.

Ha ha ha - I don't know of a more difficult shore entry in Mass. In the winter with any sort of ice this site is impossible.

The Sogster must be a climber or something....the people who avoid this site do so because of the difficult entry/exit. It's my favorite shore dive site due to the dramatic topography and bang for your buck in terms of depth from a shore dive.

Yeah, I wouldn't do it in the winter, either. Ok, maybe it's not so easy ...

Maybe not the winter, but today Cathedral was awesome. Took some time getting in and out....but the dive made it well worth it. Easily my best/favorite dive so far...

As far as RI goes...I did 2 shore dives in RI this past week. The temps are nice....but the vis was not. Had a tough time with both those dives...mainly due to inexperience with very limited vis. Something to work on. ;)

Actually if you find the right combo of rocks to walk on its quite easy providing you are sure footed with all your gear on. Getting out for us was tricky because the tide had receded so much by the end of our dive we had to crawl out were we entered.

Someone go down there and mark the easiest trail down and color code it. I'm sure you'll have many trails of different colors.

Cat has been the death of at least one diver.

I dove it once from shore ... never again.

Cat's a boat dive unless you are part mountain goat or hire a sherpa :11:

Of course the Nubble is only 20 minutes away from my house so I might be
a bit biased.
