Now that I've become fond of downloading dives to my PC I'm wondering how to capture the information while on an extended dive trip, before my Atmos 2 overwrites the old records with newer dive histories.

Packing a laptop would be a lot of bother, and leeching off a buddy who was willing to make that effort seems a poor second choice. Has anyone found a way to transfer DC data to an ipod, blackberry, or usb memory stick?

Thanks,
HDIGIT

If you look at the specs for your computer to will see that it can store up to 150 dives for computer download but will only display the last 20 dives as a log. I don't know how long your trip will be but this might prevent you from having to download your dives.

Here's the link to the specs DiveAeris.com - Scuba Gear, Scuba Equipment and Dive Gear

Thanks CalgaryDF. The 150 is based on 60' dives with a 10' sampling rate. I've set it to sample at 2' which, if it is fair to interpolate, would imply that it may store 30 dives and probably fewer as we'll be going deeper than 60'.

Looking at that link it appears that it may be far fewer which begs the question...why set the rate to 2 sec for this trip if you want the dives downloaded and you won't have a laptop with you?

Don't forget that the number of dives that the computer can remember is dependant on the sampling rate. A small sampling rate means more samples per dive means less dives in memory. A big sampling rate means less samples per dive means more dives in memory.

I've set it to record at 2 foot changes, not every 2 seconds. It is a bit of a compromise - less data recorded in a stable situation and better tracking on ascents and, perish the thought, when I yield to the temptation to do a sawtooth profile.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I never heard of this feature of recording at 2 feet depth changes, no matter what interval. I think that 2' means 2 minutes in the context you were looking at.

Are you sure about such a feature?

You could transfer the logbook software onto a portable hard-drive... and then hope that the dive center/hotel etc has a computer that you can hook into for transfering the dives?

Thanks Andy, I'll give that a try. Perhaps even a decent sized thumb drive would do the trick.

To quote page 41 of the manual:
"Factory set for 30 (seconds), the Sampling Rate can be set to values of 2, 15, 30, or 60 (seconds), or 2, 5, 10 feet (.5, 1.5, 3 meters).

Sampling Rate is the interval at which data samples are recorded during a dive for subsequent downloading to the PC program. This setting has no effect on displayed data or data in the unit's Log."

It is quite a nice feature and I should probably change it more often to suit the diving situation. I used to try to blame that setting for giving me too many rapid ascent alarms but clearly it is smarter than that and I just have to curb my enthusiasm for climbing like a homesick angel.
