Spent a lot of time at Scuba North. Bought my first snorkeling gear from them when I was in grade school and they were still in the old board shack right on the edge of the highway.
Went on charters with him or one of his crews for years.
I have not checked in a while to see if Jack has any new wrecks he goes to now. I should probably do that.

Dave,

That is soooo a on target with Jack. I've been on charters with him all over the Great Lakes and a few much warmer locations. What a great guy! and very typical of him regarding new wrecks. He claims theres a new wreck he can take us to up at Whitefish Point this year. Will be quite interesting to find out what it is.

The last new wreck I heard of in his backyard was the Three Brothers, but I haven't been up there in a few years. If you haven't seen the Three Brothers it's quite a nice dive. (Or snorkel)

Is it just me or is the water staying colder, longer this year?
To be honest, I don;t think it's been as warm in the midwest as it has in years past. I don't know about MI...but OH has been rather pleasant most of spring and the little part of summer we've gotten into. I mean I haven't had the AC on at home in over a week....that's a little odd for the end of June/beginning of July.

SwimJim:
Well I guess I'll just have to dive your side of the lake and gain some more experience. Thats okay by me ( ;

Jim

Well, come on over, the water is fine! :eyebrow:

T,
It seems that way here to. Would stand to reason the water would be a little cooler if true.

Aaaahhh, its probably just me turning into a bigger wuz as i get older. ;)

Hi Paula,
Yes, I have been on the Three Brothers several times. That is really nice wreck for such a shallow one.

Right now, at work, I can't remember the name of this other wreck Jack took us to that was in between the two islands on a 25ft shoal. Wreck was split down center into 3 pieces (side, center, side). We got to see it when they had it criss-crossed in string cause they were coming out the next day to do an archiology mapping tape of the wreck. Only reason he took us that day was because he had known us since we were kids and knew we would obey his order not to move anything. WOW, that wreck was totally covered in artifacts. It was a fantastic dive.

Have a nice day,

Dave,
I think your talking about the Alva Bradley.

The Three Brothers is a cool story. For years only a sandbar many of us had partied on. One year the sandbar erodes away and there is the Three Brothers. Pretty wild!

Thanks gedunk, you are right.

The wreck was the Alva Bradley. Aaah, good memories.

The Three Brothers:
I have a photocopy of two different postcards showing the island with and without the sandbar. They had them in the Scuba North dive shop for a while after the wreck was discovered. I probably have some sort of a semi-official write-up on it too.
Jack S. used to do that and pass em out on his dive charters all the time.

Yeah, it was cool. We got to dive her 4th of July weekend that year .... before she was too picked over.

Jack does run a nice charter operation. I heard a rumor that one of his boats might be out of operation this year due to a accident in road transport. Not sure if its true, it was one of those dive site rumors you always hear.
