I don't have an answer for you but you'll have to post once you've dove it and let me know how it is! I'm planning on heading over there the end of this month to check it out

C&N out of Mt Dora used to be the closest, but they closed. I would get tanks in the town you are staying in.

FWIW, Alexander Springs is my favorite Florida Spring. Be sure to swim close to the edge and look under the canopy for lots of cool critters. Check out the eel grass for shad and a few exotics like Neon Tetras and Fancy Tailed Guppies.

oooh, thanks for that tip NetDoc.

Not a prob. I see a lot of people drag all their gear down to the water's edge and assemble there. I find it easier to gear up in the parking lot, wet suit and everything and then walk on in to the spring. If you only do one tank there, be sure to head over to Blue Spring in Orange City and check it out as well. It's a lot deeper and the walk is a bit more challenging, but the dive is beautiful.

Question, place to fill between the two that you recommend?

Also, think you mean Orange City and not Orange Park. Orange Park is up next to Jacksonville.

I would just do one tank at each location. I am not aware of any scuba shops between the two. There used to be a Scuba shop in Orange City, but I don't think it exists anymore either.

Closest Dive Shop or place to rent tanks?

Thx!

Closest dive shop to Alexander Springs would be mine. It's about 40 minutes away if you drive slow. I make it in about 30 minutes.

Or you can check us out at the website below.

-edit-
email us when you are going, there's a chance we'll be there as we teach a lot of Boy Scouts in the summer time. If you are there when we are there, we can bring tanks for you.

I dove it a few years back. Think of a Mexican sombrero turned upside out; a central 'hole' around 26 feet deep, with the spring at the bottom. Fairly small 'diveable' area. Surrounding perimeter is shallow, part of it well-vegetated, and good for extended snorkeling, though the water is a bit cool.

Here's a link to an old online gallery I put together years ago; the software I was using to design it wasn't something I was good enough with, apparently, so it wasn't ready for prime time, so to speak, but you can see some photos.

Richard.
