Ladies,

Maybe you, like me, have bemoaned the disadvantages of being a woman in a man-dominated sport. But what about the advantages? So, in Letterman style, I have listed the top good things about this situation. Unfortunately, I do not have the staff of Letterman so I could only come up with 5. Maybe you can help me complete the list.

So from least to greatest:
5: Talking about scuba gains me “cool points” (and trust me, “cool” doesn’t describe me).
4: I don’t have to worry about clothes, make-up, or my hair (other times I don’t have this excuse!)
3: I find chivalry is not dead, but I also enjoy politely turning down offers for help.
2: Men flirt with me, and one even tried to pick me up (“drop-dead gorgeous” has never described me, and I’ve been married more years than I was ever single).
And my all-time favorite #1 reason why it’s great to be a woman diver:
1: While my male buddies have to contend with crowds, I generally have the restroom to myself.

What are your favorite advantages?

You covered most of what I would have said, but your #5 would have been my number one choice. Worded slightly differently.

1) A different attitude comes from other people when they find out I dive, especially when I say it's in cold water.

2) Just one more option for meeting some great men.

3) Male DM's are more interested in helping a single female..........

OTOH, I've heard a few women divers on boats commenting about the poor aiming ability of male divers while using the shared head on a rocking dive boat

Women, traditionally, use less air than men.
Women, have built in buoys. We will stay afloat much longer if lost at sea.
We like wine, not beer.
We can wear pink and not get strange looks

Happy holiday, everyone!!!!!!!!!!

I have never thought of diving as a male dominated sport - maybe small factions such as North East wreck diving or cave diving but not run of the mill warm water stuff - I find thats pretty even - and Ive been at this for over 10 years now !

Advantages ... hips to keep that weight belt up
small lungs to make that tank last

Disadvantages ... none that I can think of

Oh, it's very much a male dominated sport up here. More than a few times, I've been the only female on a boat of about a dozen people.

I live in the land of WWW :D and I'm generally the only woman on the boat, unless I bring female buddies with me.

Peace,
Cathie

Women make great divers. In fact, I know a couple of women divers that are just about as good as any man I've seen.

Just about as good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Women have much better air consuption.

hey I don't care what your gender is...............just be a good and safe buddy.
