Hi,

I was diveing with a 5mm shorty and using 24lbs weight. How much weight should I add when I go diving with the shorty plus the farmer john? I'm going boat diving and didnt' want to lug more weight onto the boat than was necessary. Thanks.

Riley

Go to the closest open beach with a friend. Bring the extra weights, and get your weighting down. Is it a 7mm F-J?
You indicated you will have your 5mm shorty on also. These all change how much weight you will need.
Get your weighting done at the beach first!
Good luck, Safe diving.

I am renting the wetsuit and won't be able to try it out before the boat dive.

You probably need to bring a lot of lead. 24 pounds with only a 5mm shorty seems way to heavy to begin with. My 5mm XXL full suit is only 13 pounds buoyant. A 5mm shorty, even with a couple more Xs can't be more than 8 to 10 pounds buoyant. So you are either carrying a lot of floaty stuff or quite a bit too much lead. I would estimate a 5mm 2-piece should be no more than 22 pounds buoyant or no more than 14 pounds more buoyant than your shorty if you are talking something in the L to XXL range.
