For those interested in delving into the deep dark history of diving and happen to be in/going to the keys... check out the "History of Diving Museum". They have a web site at www.divingmuseum.com.
It's located at mile marker 83 on Islamorada in the keys... there is an admission fee but they allow you to take pictures and it is a facinating place to visit while you're waiting for your no-fly time to pass.
My wife and I visited it about a week ago... although it is MOSTLY focused on hard-hat diving (they have an amazing collection of dive helmets)... there is some stuff on the early days of scuba including a re-creation of an 1828 demand regulator (based on a French patent)... it works amazingly like the ones we use today.
A helmet from Disney's "20000 Leagues Under the Sea" is cool... early regs, rebreathers, STUFF...
... anyway... thought I'd pass it along...
