Several days ago, I chanced upon a twenty-year run of the Danish Historical Diving Society journal Dykkehistorisk Tidsskrift online at Dykkehistorisk Tidsskrift 1997 – 2017 – Dykkehistorisk Selskab. Available for free download are full-text documents, i.e. not just the usual front covers, with PDF scans of all 62 issues of the periodical to appear over those two decades, including the first edition. I wish the rest of the world's historical diving societies were so generous with the past issues of their journals as their counterparts in Denmark, Germany and the USA have been.

For the benefit of the non-Danophones among us, I have taken the liberty of translating the 1997-2017 journal index into English. I have split it into two postings, Numbers 1-31 and 32-62. As a retired linguist, I have tried my hand at rendering several articles into English, which I have marked in bold type below. The fascinating anecdotes they contain made the necessary preparatory work of correcting and polishing up the output of optical character recognition and machine translation all the more worthwhile. They also prove that Denmark is no diving backwater but a small country punching above its weight with a proud and thriving tradition of military diving, recreational diving and even diving equipment manufacturing. I hope this information is of some interest to students of European diving history.

Wow. Thank you. Great work and effort on your part David.

I saw the title of this thread, and I said to myself, “I’ve got to tell David Richie Wilson about this, as I’m sure he’d be interested.” Little did I know...
