Yeah, crime's everywhere. The key is trying to avoid attracting its attention. It certainly seems that they were targetted, the victim usually isn't hurt in a robbery unless they resist.
 
the only bad crime ive encountered was when i was pickpocketed once (knock on wood. . . ) and because i placed my cellphone in the front pocket of my messenger bag. . . that was in a store in Glorietta . . . it can be avoided (at the very least)
 
Nasty incident. Terrible and tragic, but this stuff happens everywhere. Plenty of people get shoti in Sydney every year, and if you compare the stats for road deaths....
