... thereby assuring that the people who most need the information will tune him out. He's the Rush Limbaugh of the diving world ... and therefore he's only relevant to those who already agree with him. In that respect, anything he has to say is pretty much just preaching to the choir, and useless to the dive community at large.

Knowledge is only one aspect of communication ... equally important is the ability to make people want to hear what you have to say. In George's case, his mommy needs to take away his keyboard and make him stand in front of people he wants to talk to like that ...

Very well put Bob! Certainly true in my case.

So you know you need the information most but because he hurt your feelings you won't listen?.........

lol.

OK. It's your choice, and certainly a logical one :D

See ya in 59mins, here's the 100% I'm leaving it on the boat. :)
LOL..

Here is all that any non-GUE (and far too many GUE) trained divers will remember about what George had to say ...

Personally, I have no sympathy for some one that can't get past the messenger so see/hear the message. Its pretty easy to ignore his rants. Mind you, I like them. Some of his lines are just way too funny.

Thinking about this a bit more, I'm going to have to say that I disagree. George with his "in your face" style of writing brought ideas of tech diving "out of the closet" so to speak. It forced people to look at what they were doing and question it.

Regardless if you were DIR or not. The non-DIR divers had to "defend" their choices, which forced them to think and understand their own style and vis-versa

So for the price of getting some old timers getting their panties in a wad, a whole new generation of tech divers have one way or another have been influenced by George.

Mind you, the time for his style is over now.

I'm with Grateful on this one. While much of the DIR philosopy itself brings useful ideas to the table and has had positive influence on the sport, GI has managed to create a whole following in the sport who question NOTHING. IMO, anyone who comes into technical diving with a closed mind is making a big mistake.

Which is better - 100% or 80%? The answer is neither or either. You can do a successful deco using either one, along with a number of other combinations. In most cases practical considerations rule - 100% is easier to "make", and standardizing deco gases make team diving more practical and pre-dive planning simple.

and I found the exact opposite. I guess nobody believes the people that talk about their DIR-f or tech 1 experience and say that the instructors try to make them into thinking divers. Either don't believe or just ignore the info.

yep, and that goes to both sides of the DIR/non-DIR camps.

"GI has managed to create a whole following in the sport who question NOTHING."

That sure doesn't sound like you are commenting on George specifically. You basically called what you referred to as "a whole following" as a bunch of not thinking lemmings. Statements like this appear to make you guilty of exactly what you claim to dislike about George's delivery?

ageddiver:
And you've completely missed my point. Grateful and I were commenting on GI specifically - not DIR. Big difference. Don't get your panties in a bunch.
