GA Under Water:
Try the tank cradle, unless they are some unnatural beast of woe, you are on top of things. They can't move.

To quote an old 80's flick

"When done right, no can defense."
Not going to work for me nor the type of diving, but thanks for the offer.

Ron Brandt:
Absolutely not! Use the bungee on the 22" reg on your neck....

Sell the Zeagle,or at the mininum get a Zeagle SS backblate and standard webbing and use the Rangers wing on it.

Ron

Why are you suggesting this? He's not asking if he needs to buy a backplate for a 7' long hose to function? But the answer would still be no....

JeffG:
By the sounds of it, some odd instructors here and there do it, but I doubt that it would be common.

I have a friend in NM, and I BET he teaches (NAUI OW) in a long hose, but I'm not sure.

I'm diving with him this weekend. I'll ask.

when I'm not in a FFM in the winter I use a 9 foot hose...WAY more comfortable, no restriction in head movement...sounds stupid, but oh well..

TheRedHead:
Yes. A long hose without a bungeed secondary is like wearing half a bikini. Too weird.
No, not at all like that.
We would never point and make
fun of someone in a half a bikini. :eyebrow:

The basic open water training agencies, and the dive stores that rent gear, settled on 40 inches because that is the minimum length for sharing air face to face.

Same answer for Air2.

Same answer for doubles.

My double tanks are really nice. They are sweet for balance and trim. I only need a 10 lb weight belt with them for cold water apps. Why don't they teach this in OW?

Duh?

Most agencies in this area use Inflater Integrated Octo's.

Some OW instructors do start out with a long hose configuration. One posted on this thread. A new diver is not going to be confused by setup than is not typical, because they are new, and don't know the options.

Routing, donating, and breathing off a long hose is not going to be more difficult for a new diver vs. learning the same with any other configuration.

Comparing diving doubles to a long hose is a poor analogy as doubles will be MUCH more difficult for a new diver. If for no other reason, the weight involved impacts trim and buoyancy and is more of a challange. They are also a bear to lift, and get onto one's back! :D

Many use the tailgate, or picnic bench method.

DivingCRNA:
Backplate, Air2, and doubles aside (I am in a backplate, have and air2 but quit using it, and am jonesing for doubles), just because 40 inches is the minimum for sharing air does not mean it is the optimum for sharing air....

Youre missing the point.

I think if you would avail yourself of an ITC/IDC then you would gain a greater appreciation of why local dive stores and why certification-training agencies do what they do. There is a really big picture involved.

Actually I feel it is a beautiful analogy, because there are so many people (mostly DIRF) crying and crying about why the training agencies do not teach cave protocols from the get-go. And according to that crybaby mentality, why not doubles too?

Heck, why not CCRs from the get-go too???:eyebrow:

Ahh, I see where you were going with this. ;)
