ten year old mares second stage with viton O rings and a good simple green scrubbing with out problems.

When 02 cleaning, the area's you really have to watch for are the ones that see HP 02. 2nd stages generally don't see HP 02. I personally don't do anything special for the 2nd stages.

Since they can't be taken apart, how is an SPG prepared for O2 service?
It is true that the 'standard' has been set out out there at 40% (there are other thoughts, but that is a different thread). Ideally you would want to have everything above 40% O2 cleaned, paying special attention to HP areas. Adiabatic heating occurs due to a change in the pressure of a gas. But the SPG is a closed system, so only the moment you 'charge' the spg, you get an increase of pressure. This is in my opinion not enough to heat it up for combustion, especially since you should charge the SPG slowly anyway. Now if you look inside the spg orrifice and see gunk, of course you would want to clean it out, but I don't think it needs O2 cleaning.

A tank/valve is a different matter, here you have a higher, more sustained pressure change and far more heat generated. Here you would be well advised to have them O2 cleaned.

I know all that. I've been diving pure O2 and high O2 mixes for almost 11 years. It doesn't answer my question. I want to know exactly how those that claim SPGs must be prepared for oxygen service suggest it be done.

I've seen swivels on SPG's packed with silicone grease. I remove it with Q-tips and some simple green, then put a little O2 compatible lubricant in there.
