Well the 1st and 2nd stage are off for servicing and O2 cleaning. I was wondering what is involved in cleaning a spg other than replacing O-rings. Do they take the spg apart to clean it? The spg is new...

Every O2 combustion I've seen has occured in the valve,so I really don't stress as much about the spg and regulator itself. I do take care of the valve on a regular basis.nadwidny:Since they can't be taken apart, how is an SPG prepared for O2 service?
Dive-aholic:If the spg is new, then you shouldn't have a problem...as long as it's never been used with non-O2 compatible air. There isn't a practical way to O2 clean a spg. Buy one and dedicate it to your deco bottle.

nadwidny:I've seen a case or 2 of a first stage combusting, and of course a couple of valves, but like you I've never heard of an SPG. And I've certainly never heard of any process to take an SPG to "O2 service". So I'm wondering how those that call for an "O2 service" condition for an SPG, suggest it should be done.
in_cavediver:Its easy to O2 clean an SPG. Simply flush enough O2 through it, fast enough and at a high enough pressure to combust all of the contaminents. Burn them all off, then its clean enough..
In reality, its more of selecting the gauge than cleaning it. I wouldn't grab an SPG from a reg in rental for 10 years and plug o2 into it. I would grab a new SPG and use it straight out of the box though.
