Hmm. That sounds like the spot. I can't think of any other areas you'd be able to hit 72'. Last year, though, Colin and I both came up stating that would be a good place to start next year. I wonder if the hurricanes did some of our work for us...

Walter:
I dived the hole, reaching 72 ft on my first dive and 70 ft on my second. On the first dive, we found absolutely nothing. On the second dive, we got one bag of line and some coiled copper cable, it took 2 lift bags (55 & 100 lb bags) to bring it up. The water was road sign green and viz varied from 2 - 6 feet. Water temp was 67° F and the current was moderately strong.

The Hole? Where is that? The first spot we hit was next to Hospital Hole or whatever, the second spot was referred to as the humps and we hit 83' on the shells with that one. At the bottom of the second 20' tall wall headed into the pass I had made a star with anchors I had accumulated from the lines that Jeff and I were cutting. While he balled up line, rope, etc., to be tied to a teather that we took to the boat for folks up there to haul up, I made this star so it would be easy to get this year.

Ah.. yeah, if you dove the last spot Jeff and I did, it would be very easy to remember as it was 2 walls that were almost exactly 83' at the bottom, 63' at the top and about 30' wide. The walls were absolutely covered in very colourful marine life, sponges, and what seemed like an endless web of monofiliment, rope, chains, hooks, leads....

I just wish we could have been there. Next year for sure

Ok. Here is the scoop from Andy my Mechanic. The upper gear case or housing is toast. the gears have gone into hiding and have disentigrated, either from low oil which should not have happened due to only having 25 hours on the drive since last check. or the previous operator hit something with the drive and it chipped the gears, either way I am outta duty for a short period until I can either find another Mer Alpha One upper unit or have him rebuild mine either way $1100 ain't cheep.

Hopefully will have it up and running soon for the Venice Bone yard trip that we are planning..

Dang! Sorry to hear that Brian. And here we were so sure that it was the lower unit. :bomb:

Looking forward to making a Venice trip sometime with you, but then again, maybe I am bad luck and you won't let me on the boat again :icon10:

BTW, have you looked in your glove box lately?

Jeff

I was hoping it was a spun hub, would be cheaper to fix, Oh-Well. it'll be fixed soon enough, no your more than welcome back on the boat, I haven't shunned Colin or JustJoe off yet as they have brought a storm and big WAAVES.

And I haven't looked in my glove box yet. I haven't needed to pull out my registration or proof of insurance yet.

I will look when I go outside, now you have me worried as to what I may find in there.

Hey Buddy, sorry to hear about the boat. Good luck, and I hope you can get it fixed soon....
