I didn't even dive when the movie came out I and I knew it was crap. When you watch movies like that you have to push the big red "I believe" button and just accept their premise. Try to enjoy the story and then you can pick it apart for fun afterwards. Or at least that's what I do.

If you show up to the dock for a shark cage dive and the boat and cage look like they haven’t been serviced since the Kennedy administration, are you REALLY going to get on the boat?

Do you REALLY think those cylinders and regulators have been serviced recently?

Realistic events given those circumstances would have been them passing out from bad gas before the cable even broke, lol.
