I don't know if this post is too late but......
I recently took the "fly into san pedro sula then a bus to a ferry option" back in March of 2007. The plus side of the trip was the bus ride allowed us to see some of the really scenic country side (only disturbed by the abject poverty in between the mountain vistas). In any case, because of a Plane delay, we missed our ferry to Utila. That resulted in a scramble to find a hotel in the town ( the name escapes me) so that we could catch the next ferry in the morning. So we lost a day of diving and a day at the resort. Over all not a too terrible experience but if you count the day lost at the resort plus the day of diving and the hotel room.., we where out a couple of hundred bucks.
Still my group, Sterling Silver Scuba, was a pretty happy go lucky bunch and the best was made out of the whole thing and turned into a bit of an adventure. The hotel on the Hondo mainland was actually quite nice...
