http://www.ship-technology.com/projects/elation/ This website has the technicals on the class of ships including the Inspiration. Only the newest the Elation has the propeller pods. They were not used on the older Inspiration.

I would have to be within 100 feet of this bad boy when it passes by. Imaging being in only 50 feet of water when the cruise ship drawing at least 25 feet of draft passes over head. Then of course what is the safe distance from the propeler suction?

I note the black cloud of exhaust as the ship is pulling away in the photos Carlisere took. Someone was putting the pedal to the metal. Can you say OOPS?

It's a question of passenger capacity. Outside of aircraft and assault carriers, no other ships afloat carry as many people, 'cept ferries.

Running at full capacity the engines deliver about 36,000 horsepower to the azipods.

We've probably got some engineers around here who could make a good guesstimate, but I'd guess that the suction is stronger than my swimming ability at least 500 feet away.

Glad I wasn't there.

Just think of all the marine life that got chewed up.

Better still, think of the reef life that got smothered by all the sedimentation. That's a lot of coral that'll kick the bucket... even the species that are tolerant to moderate loading.

There's an interesting ambiental study here that was done for Bermuda with a section on coral reef sedimentation.
