I was having a similar problem with sand getting in my Octo when beach diving in Cozumel. So I just put a latex balloon over the mouthpiece.

It keeps the salt water and sand out and creatures (bugs) when storing them in my garage for the winter.

I put a damp towel over my rig if its that hot; with using backplate and wings.

What... like a condom? :rofl3:
THAT would make for a good ice-breaker at the dive site!!
- Brings a whole new meaning to safe scuba. :D

Cheers!

should be easy to sew a pouch and add drawstring or elastic and slip over the reg., kinda like the booties we use to slip over or bowling shoes when we have to go to the bathroom during leauge, just a thought. BTW Crown Royal MMMmmmmmm
