I informed them that their reporting needed to checked.
They were reporting that the divers OXYGEN tanks were empty when they were found and that as we all know that would be the kiss of death if they had Oxygen in their doubles on their back.
They responded to me. I was surprized to say the least and they did so with in 2 hours of me emailing them.
Here is their reponse. I removed the names and Ask and was granted permission to post it .

Mr. Gray is 100-percent correct.
This was 100-percent my fault.
I put the word oxygen in Shawn's story, and in hindsight, I should have known better.
My wife is a frequent diver and has explained the tank mixtures to me several times before.
I simply forgot in the rush to copy edit the script.
My deepest apologies for putting Shawn in a bad light and for damaging our credibility among our diving viewers.

At least they admit their mistake.

I stumbled across this forum doing a search on the accident at eagles nest. I didnt know the divers but I feel for their famlies.

Thanks for the up to date info Curt, it's hard to get the facts when a lot of people reporting twist them so badly.

Anyway HI all, sorry to enter the scene on such somber news, but I live here in spring hill and have dove the nest a few dozen times so it really hits home for me.

UPDATE: the body of Craig Simon was recovered from the Nest this evening, however one of the recovery team divers is apparently bent and on his way to Shands via helicoptor for treatment. I don't know exactly how serious. Please direct good thoughts and prayers towards his recovery.

The bent diver is Larry Green. He had conducted 1 300 foot dive each day for 3 days in the attempts to locate and remove the divers.

I am not sure about his condition; I do know its not really serious, some weakness in his left arm and blurred vision.

I will get the full report from Larry or Debra tomorrow.

All the recovery divers deserve a round of applause.

I will be putting a little thing in the next issue of ADM for the recovery divers to show my appreciation for their hard work and dedication to help our fellow cave divers and their families in the hour of need.

Mask's off to them

Indeed Curt. Mask's off to each and every one of the recovery divers and the support personnel.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Larry that he recovers completly.

After reading this thread I ran a search to find out about the site and found this:
http://www.floridacaves.com/eagles.htm
The last updates on the page contain a lot of details.
I feel for the families of the divers - and for the whole cave diving community which I realise is a closeknit group of highly trained specialists. My condolences......
All of you - please take care with what you do - and be safe.
