Just 14 hours to CCV. Besides the 20+ dives anything else to check out while in Roatan?

If they offer a day trip to your boat ($30 each) down to the west end - Do it.

You would not believe how good a shape the reef is in there!

20 Dives? Man, at CCV you might be considered to be a non-diver :14:

On the off gassing day, there are a lot of things you can take a look at including the "Jungle Canopy Tour" and the Dolphin Encounter Snorkel (the best way to get the touchy-feely version versus the actual SCUBA trip).

At CCV every day selected island craftsmen will appear on a set schedule with really nice things for you to take home to Aunt Marge who watched your Poodle all week. They bring in specificaly island generated crafts. You might opt on Friday to go to the West end and poke around, many people hope that they will find greater selections afield, unfortunately you are likely to find a wide selection of Guatemalan imports instead. West End has many great bars if you want to enjoy that scene.

Real adventure? Get a cab with one of CCV selected English speaking drivers and have hime hire a water taxi tour from Oak Ridge. Other than the standard south side trip through the mangroves on the islands own intercoastal waterway system, tell them to head East and take you thru the mangrove hacked channel that will bring you to the North side. Then if you are really ready for a trip, head East to Morat and Helena, the next islands over. Check out Cow and Calf on the return, just East of Port Royal. This all day adventure will cost maybe $75, but bring water and sunscreen.

CCV will have a list of activities you can sign up for, but like Dan said, check out the west End diving. The walls look a lot different, they have larger critters, but less lush and less packed with babies and smaller critters that you find on the South side.

Oh, btw- shoot for 25 dives. No pressure here, but you're not what they call at CCV a Weenie diver, are you? :rofl3: Naw- dive as you like, but please try to do a night dive every night. The "Front Yard" is so shallow, and the intact 140' wreck lying in 35-65fsw is linked to your room by its original anchor chain. You can't get lost, and if you do... stand up. ;)

Submergus Maximus, Latin for CoCoView.

TJ,

You will not be dissapointed! The group that took the West End trip ended up seeing 2 Whale Sharks while I was there a few weeks ago. I took the the Port Royal trip - which ended up being shorted to 1/2 day due to weather concerns - but the diving was great anyway.

20+ dives?? what are going to do with all your free time?

Take the Island tour - or the canopy tour - on Friday. Either will be fun!

My mistake 30+ dives. Hopefully we can dive with the whale sharks. Hopefully in 10 days I will have my report filed

Hey Doc, any suggestions for a poor soul "stuck" at Anthony's Key? We get in Saturday AM.

You're really close to a lot of non-dive action! You could grab a cab and eat in the West End and get back in time to do a night dive- it's that close.

Nearby are the Iguana Farm and Horticultural Garden as well as one of the Canopy Tours (Slide for Life). The horseback riding opertion is also nearby.

To give you a rough idea of the layout of the island: From the Airport, five minutes West to Coxen Hole Town, then head North over the ridge of the island. In 12 minutes, AKR will be on your right, then 5 minutes later, you're in the West End. AKR is along the main drag where most cab traffic passes. The resorts to the East (like CCV and FIBR) are also along "the main drag", but very few people pass that way.

AKR is the single best place on the island for families- they have lots for kids, but you would do well to arrange it all in advance with AKR just to be certain the programs are available on every given week. Many people go there believing that the Dolphin program will easily amuse the bored for the entire week. I'd give it about two hours, max. Unless you are a kid and in the discovery program- looks like kids enjoy that!

Thanks for the info. Any suggestions for a good restaurant? Something with a little local flavor?

Once again, thanks for the info. 2 days and counting down!
