Hello,

I just picked up my Apeks XTX-200 regs from their first service, and the technician informed me that the conical filter was missing from the first stage?

I am not sure how this is possible unless it was a manufacturing screwup as the first stage has never been opened since I purchased the regs.

Have I been at risk for the last ~60 dives without this part in my first stage?

Cheers

It very well could have been a manufacturing defect. The missing filter will not effect the operation of the regulator. It is there to keep debris from entering the regulator from the tank, so in general, you were not at any great risk, however, if there had been any debris in one of your tank, it could have caused a regulator malfunction.

But, under some circumstances (such as underwater), a regulator malfunction COULD be a risk factor!

Or the filter could have just fallen out. I am not familiar with your model but some Apeks yoke 1sts use a flat filter that is simply pressed into place with no retainer.

BTW, the filter is one of those things a diver should inspect occasionally, if possible, for sign of dirt or corrosion.

I didn't say there was no risk, just not great risk. In any case, it's just my opinion. But if he had been in great risk, there would have been an issue already.

Thanks for the replies. Afetr reading the service manual, I am wondering if the conical filter is only used with a DIN fitting. My 1st stage is Yoke, and the manual does not mention fitment of the conical filter in the yoke assembly instructions (only the disc filter which is in place).

If so, is having them both in place an issue? Guess an email to Apeks may be in order.

Cheers

Current practice is to install the conical filter (Apeks part #AP1472) in both DIN and yoke-configured Apeks first stages. There's an additional filter guard (Apeks part #AP1406/1) that's installed on the outside of the yoke clamp connector. Both the conical filter and filter guard are included in the standard Apeks first stage overhaul kit. Refer to a current Apeks reg tech manual for more details.

Apeks stopped using the porvair disk filter with yoke regs some time ago. They use the conical filter for both yoke & Din now.

I'v just re read your last post & I'm now wondering if they've changed back to porvair filters for their yoke regs.

Below is a link to the ATX 200 manual. On page 6, at the bottom left of the page you can see a note about the filters. On page 8 you can see the installation of the conical filter & plastic filter shield.

So, pay no attention to me, as of now, I'm more confused than you.
