Is it still warm enough to dive wet in NJ?

I'm thinking about trying to get a spot on a boat on Sunday 10/14 but not sure if the temp is warm enough to dive wet. Anybody have any insight into what the bottom temps are in the area? The coldest i've been in my 7-mil was about 52 and I do not think I want to go in anything much colder...

    Lost Weight Pouch

Hi all - I had a little mishap this evening during a training night dive in the shark river inlet at "L Street". I lost a weight pouch for my seaquest BCD. It's in about 13' of water maybe 30' north and 20' east of the closest pilon to the boat ramp. Unfortunately the Visability was horrible 2'...

Diver dies as lobster mini-season begins

I read the article wich just indicated that he appeared to be struggling on the surface and he was pronounced dead after they attempted CPR. It did not indicate (or did I miss it) that there was any diving accident related or what the cause of death was, does anybody know? The poor guy could...

Do you Dive more or Post more?

:rofl3: Perhaps we should start a poll?

    payment query

That's good to know. That changes alot if they are a known entity but I still stand by my recommendations for doing the necessary due dilligence to start a business. And I agree with you regarding the wire transfer but I generally do not purchase stuff from overseas unless I have no option.

Do you Dive more or Post more?

I'm actually surprised that the poll right now is pretty evenly split (even though I think this is a really useless question). For me - I dont have that many posts, but I dont have that many dives logged either. But when you can invent a way for me to go diving during the day while I'm still...

    payment query

No offense but you have already answered your own question: - The transaction is a large one which requires most of your savings - There is concern over the company being able to deliver and you potentially losing most of your savings with no recourse. - The company in itself is not recognized...

Hood face seal trimming, any tips?

RV You do not HAVE to trim a hood if it fits well. The problem usually is that you cannot get the mask skirt against your face when wearing a pair of gloves. If you can put the hood on, and then easily don your mask and get a good seal while you are wearing thick gloves then there is no need...

    "Open Water" The Movie

I did not think of that perspective but it is very true. I cannot stand movies that are "Based on a true story" where in the first 20 minutes of the movie the main characters are never seen alive again. That says to me right there that the remainder of the movie is complete made up crap...

Surface Freak Out (kind of long-winded)

I had similar problems with a 7mil fullsuit and a 7mill hooded vest over it. I felt very constricted in my chest and neck. I did 1 or 2 dives and while I did not have breathing issues to the same extent that you pointed out I was not breathing as deeply as I am normally comfortable...

Just finished my PADI Cert - you have GOT to be kidding me

Yeah and a $160,000 in spring hill tenessee will get you a 3 bedroom 2 bath 1500sq ft. condo. In NY that's easily a 1.5-$2,000,000 venture. If you go by that markup the certification class should be $1,000+ for that cost of living difference........ If the class included all the dives and the...

Hood face seal trimming, any tips?

Two comments to add to Spectrums post (Only because I followed those very helpfull instructions not too long ago): I found it easier to have my wife make the markings for me, if you can have someone do it. I also found that if you insert a piece of wood in the hood and use a razor, penknife...

    What would you have done?

To the original OP - I am not very far ahead of your current status, and while I understand the desire to do any dive you can, and I also understand you were made to feel comfortable since you were getting in the water with an instructor ultimately as divers it's our responsability to ensure we...

    What would you have done?

Aint that the truth. I just did a shallow dive averaging 15'. About 50 minutes in my buddy and I had almost identical gas consumption. The float line for out dive flag got tangled up in my primary and ripped it out or my mouth and the reg started freeflowing. No big deal, I grabbed my backup and...

    Dutch Springs

You will find Dutch is really really empty during the week. I would imagine that usually ='s better vis though! I think they have a buddy finder on there website you can try also if you need a buddy while you are there, but you probably already know that. I'd head up there but unfortunately I...

    Where to mount a knife?

Inside without a doubt for me. It does not get in the way when I kick and I would have to try really hard to get something on the inside of my leg to tangle with it. I wear it on my left leg so i can get at it with my right hand. I also carry a small backup knife in a BC pocket incase for...

    Wreck Valley Forum

Have all of the threads in the Wreck Valley Forum been lost? I show only three threads which have "Stickys" on them when I go to the forum, not sure if it's just me and it's not displaying correctly for me or if the history was lost with the system problems. -Matt

    Is my complaint legitimate??

A decent LDS will let you slide on the labor charges if you explain it calmly as you did here. I had my reg "Checked out" after I did not dive it for 6 month's for a cost of $25 and when I went back for the full service the owner noticed the check that they charged me for in the computer and...

    COmpass

My only comment is that you should avoid getting one which mounts on the BACK of your console. I started with a mini console that had air/depth on one side and a compass on the back, the problem with that setup was that do maintain depth and heading you had to constantly flip the console over so...

    What are you reading now?

"E=MC2 A biography of the worlds most famous equation". I'm not even sure why I picked it up when I was at the bookstore, but I got into it after the first few pages and its turning out to be an interesting read.
