A dark dive at Bluefish Cove

I found the book sold here to be incredibly useful: KAYAK DIVING & FISHING, Surfing, Exploring, and Play!

    Aquarius sold!

Best of luck, Bruce! Stopping at Aquarius for a chat has long been an important part of our pre-dive ritual!

Found a fin just off the ramp at Lobos

I found a fin on Sunday 5/5 just off the ramp at Lobos; it hadn't been down long. PM me if it's yours.

Medical supply stores in Mountain View, Palo Alto area that sell p-valve condoms?

Damn, I've been ordering from At Home Medical... and apparently paying too much! Thanks for the link, Peter.

Video: Back to the Two Towers (McAbee)

We stumbled on them by accident the first time... This time was a touch more deliberate, and I took some notes: Head directly off the beach and surface kick a bit further than the rocks that El Torito sits on -- this will put you over about 20 ft of water. Descend and follow a 330...

    Insurance for Tech Gear

My scuba gear was covered for replacement value (minus a deductible) under my State Farm renter's policy, without any kind of rider.

    Lobos Dive Sites

Roughly speaking, the 100' contour running through 3 Sisters, Beto's, and Granite Point Pinnacles represents the practical outer limit of our kick dives. (And those are pretty long dives, so you need to think hard about gas and NDLs if you're going all the way. (But that said, folks have...

OxyCheq Raider failed, then failed again

This is a great opportunity to correct that! Just tell me where to ship the busted light, then send me one that works. Simple!

OxyCheq Raider failed, then failed again

Sadly, once upon a time I had one of the great ones. Alas, I lost it in the great gear theft. And now here we are. According to my LDS, several of this batch of Raiders had to go back Oxycheq.

OxyCheq Raider failed, then failed again

I bought a new OxyCheq Raider I from my LDS. It acted squirrely on its first dive (it would wink on and off when jostled -- this also happened to my buddy's Raider I). I took it to my LDS. They sent it to OxyCheq. I waited a lonnnnng time... about 4 months for the light to be returned...

    Video: Granite Point Wall 12/4/10

It was dark the first time we went back there, so we christened it "Mordor". A similar vibe, huh? LP80s plus an AL40. Bear in mind that probably half of the dive was poking around Middle Reef, shallower than 30 feet. Not too bad, actually. For some reason, the cold often hits me after...

    Pt Lobos question???

We regularly dive on one reservation as a team of three. And like Mike said, we're as polite as possible at the gate: we're all in one car, we ask permission, etc. It's never been a problem, but if they were ever to bounce us, we wouldn't put up a fuss.

    most of my gear stolen

Thanks again, all, for your kind replies. I had a good talk with my insurance agent today, and then made a cheering trip to Any Water Sports. I picked up just enough stuff to get me into the water Saturday (with no light and empty pockets, but wet all the same). Frank and Ginny were...

    most of my gear stolen

Thanks all. Good point: My wife's bike was a Bianchi touring bike, aqua green with pannier rack. My bike was a black Trek 7300, serial wtuf0430163.

    most of my gear stolen

I'm sad to report that someone broke into my garage this weekend and stole most of my scuba gear (not to mention camping gear, bikes, and whole helluva lot of booze left over from my wedding). The full list of stolen stuff is impressively long, but the big ticket items are: 1 apeks DST/TX50...

    Side of Butt Dump

That's right. In a typical "tech" setup, all buoyancy control is handled with your left arm, and your depth gauge is on your right wrist. That way you can monitor your depth on the right while making adjustments on the left.

    P-Valve Opinions

I haven't noticed it, but since I only recently went unbalanced, my experience is limited to a handful of relatively calm shore entries during which I was very careful to "flood the line" as I entered. I'm curious about what other folks have to say.

    P-Valve Opinions

As I said above, I had issues with my oxycheq balance chamber. It may have been a fluke, or may not. I might go halcyon if I had to do it again -- I think theirs might be the most streamlined of the bunch. I'm sure you'll get a lot of opinions about brands... It probably doesn't really...

    P-Valve Opinions

I tried holding it, Depends, and a p-valve. The p-valve was the winner, hands down. Holding it sucks. Particularly in cold water, particularly if you're staying well-hydrated, you're going to need to pee. I don't care if it's a long dive or a short dive, do you really want to rush it just...
