Good spot for family dives with beginner divers?

The upper keys are an excellent choice. My family did a few vacations there, my younger daughter and wife did their open water certification dives there. There are almost too many good choices for dive ops. I can recommend Elena (see post #5 above).

    Anyone Dived Key Largo?

I dove for a week with Key Largo Dive Center last June/July and did many reef trips and the Spiegel Grove for my AOW. Great six pack operation. Had a good time. Key Largo Dive Center | Reefs to dive for!

    Renting dive gear

In the past we have carried on our regs and my camera and checked the rest. I guess it comes down to the quality of rental gear and COST of renting gear vs $50x2 (round-trip) for an extra bag. Does it cost less than $100 to rent gear for a week?

    Drowning at Lake Rawlings

Or the opposite of "paid your dues". I'm still a relatively new diver and where I'm comfortable diving with my family (grow your own dive buddies), I'd be hesitant trying to mentor someone else. Yes, I'm OW certified and have the basic skills down pretty well. I would help out someone fiddling...

dive in bonaire, then beach time in aruba?

The Plaza Resort in Bonaire has a nice little beach. We hung out there for a day this past December while on a cruise stop. The wife and 2 girls took turns between being my dive buddy and laying out on the beach. They have a house reef right off the beach. Dive shop on premises (Toucan Diving)...

    Shell collecting laws

I've been a beach walking shell collector a lot longer than I have been a diver, usually NC beaches. Any idea why the restriction of "a queen conch shell having an off-center hole larger than 1/16 inch in diameter through its spire is prohibited" is in there? Just curious. Thanks!
