Titan Triggerfish Attack [No injury thankfully]

It's one of the few species that are able to eat the Crown of Thorns starfish for one. Though they are not a favored target.

    Smoking and diving

Well the APA did give it a separate disorder. I believe because you cannot (as far as we know) develop a physical dependency to marijuana the eat you can to caffeine, nicotine and alcohol.

Neutral Buoyancy for a safety stop

Since nobody has pointed it out yet, I would like to add that if you find yourself ascending too much during a safety stop, you can try swimming away from other divers. Sometimes, the bubbles from other divers are what's lifting you.

    Smoking and diving

Most of the people who dive here (including instructors) smoke. Personally I don't. Mostly people have been courteous enough to ask me if I minded if they smoked or moved downwind so the smoke goes away from me. Never had someone try smoking on a speedboat though.

    Insurance

Has anyone gotten dive insurance from a provider other than DAN? I'm looking at DiveAssure for comparison. Home – DiveAssure

Open Water or Advanced Open Water and logging your dives?

I just saw this thread. Recently did my AOW and will be diving in December. Be happy to test it out for you. I'm not very diligent in logging dives though...

Which fins are good for strong currents

Couple caveats on freediving find. They are very long and hard so you need to me more aware of where you are kicking. Also they are a pain to travel with. I dive full foot Gull Supermew which is flexible, about 65cm and effective for currents. If you want open heel fins, I have been...

Accessory pouch for BP/W set up

I'm fat enough that I have plenty of empty strap at the harness

Accessory pouch for BP/W set up

I'm diving with the DiveRite Transpac XT Travelpac BP/W BC and I have a few accessories that I like to bring down (Torchlight, Gopro, DSMB & feel). At the moment, I clip it on the D-Rings And stuff them around so they don't dangle much, but they do get loose and dangle anyway. Was wondering what...

Impact on Regulator: Swapping out the SPG & HP hose

Thanks guys. Figured it was nonsense. I will end up buying a HP hose from the LDS before the trip anyway. Would give me an opportunity to test out the set before I get it wet.

Impact on Regulator: Swapping out the SPG & HP hose

Not sure if this belongs in the Regulator or Instruments forum, but here's my situation: I recently purchased the Apeks XTX50 regulator and have yet to get it wet. Due to a misunderstanding, I did not get a HP hose shipped to me with my order. However, the shop was kind enough to ship one over...

Going to to Penang in late September

There are technical dives near Penang. I believe mostly wrecks since it's located at a WW2 hotspot. There's a cool video you can watch below: For recreational diving Pulau Payar is the best bet, and sounds like @Anna1990 had a decent experience... Maybe I will schedule one to check it out...

Storing regulator in a regulator bag

Nobody uses an old laptop bag? Good padding, about the right shape...

    Travel Regulator

First of all:To answer your question, not financially, but since you mention it is not much an issue... Sounds like fins should be next though. When I did my OW, the instructor told me to remember ABC if I ended up enjoying diving enough to buy my own equipment. A = Fins; B = Mask; C = Snorkel...

What are the better dive bags that you would recommend ?

Yeah. Maybe it is America-centric? I do wonder if they let regs through airport security. A series of hoses connected to a metal thing probably scares some airport people...

What are the better dive bags that you would recommend ?

Going through this thread. Is it bad practice to put your regs in check in? Seems like everyone takes them on carry on

Regulator choice: Apeks XL4, AL Mikron, ScubaPro MK25 EVO + G260

Yeah. Ended up ordering the XTX50(DST) set online. Here’s hoping there won’t be import tariffs. The schedule says no, but it can be a bit random in these here parts

    Investing in gear and trim

I believe it’s because they are selling it as a set, and this breaks the set and I don’t get the promo. I’m buying it online instead of locally in Malaysia due to the large price difference. Even at this price it’s still almost half the price than at my LDS

    Investing in gear and trim

$50 in a 'third world' (YMMV) country is more than a meal or a coffee. Hahaha. But if you guys think it's still worth the premium, I would not mind investing a bit extra
