Actually it is getting warmer up here every year due to global warming. ;) If you like deep, dark, cold, pristine wreck diving you will be in heaven. Welcome!

    UP Diving Recommendations

Great feedback. I've come to the right place. :) I really enjoyed the dive operations in Door County and Milwaukee in the past. I was hoping to try something new. I checked with Greg at Shipwreck Adventures last week but he won't get back from Mackinac until late next week. The big...

    UP Diving Recommendations

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm having a heck of a time finding available charters. I figured with all the great diving these charters would be running every day. Now I'm starting to look at airfare. B.C. looks nice. ;)

    Why is DIR all black?

I saw this guy wearing a full yellow-green wetsuit at a dive site a month ago. Dozens of people were looking at this guy and snickering. I kept wondering if he really chose this suit by choice or if it was the only thing he could afford on the clearance rack.

An industry that is in decline

Dive shops exist to serve divers. Divers aren't here to serve diveshops. It isn't a two-way street. I like many of the dive shop owners in my area. I think they are hard working people. But unless I am a shareholder in their business I am not responsible for helping them remain profitable...

    Lake Superior - Bayfield, Wisconsin

The dive charters in that area have gone out of business over the years. You can still find local fishing or sailing charters that will take you out to dive locations. The dive sites are fairly shallow. I have heard reports that the diving is decent. You may want to check with the folks at...

Halcyon Prouduction, DIR, and ironic facts of life

I can understand why you guys with the staple problems are upset. But I clearly think your blame is misplaced. You should be upset with the distributor, not the manufacturer. If the distributor says that halcyon won't replace the wing then it's up to the distributor to fix the problem by...

good or bad time to buy a dive shop?

Not to turn this into a political discussion, but PUH-LEESE. Um, I wonder how many "poor" people were heavily invested in the stock market a couple years ago. The rich got slaughtered my friend. I don't like the idea of buying a slumping business in a soft economy without knowing more...

Great Lakes Diving - a cautionary tale

You take a couple people with no cold water experience, put them in poor exposure protection and warm water regs, and go diving in Superior -- someone is going to get hurt. Just because someone has experience doesn't mean they have specific experience with the diving conditions in your area...

    Wetsuit diving limits

I have tried Lake Superior in a wetsuit. 37deg on the surface and 36deg at depth -- not much of a thermocline. I spent one weekend last year in a wetsuit and decided then and there to buy a drysuit. I could only last about 25min in a wetsuit.

Long hose on SQ Balance - experience?

Grajan, I made 80+ dives in a seaquest balance + 7ft hose last year. The hose will route just fine around the pocket. You may want to keep something in the pocket to help hold the hose down. I always carried a small light in the pocket. Something like a 1lb weight would work as well.

    Newbie Question: 1-Week Crash Courses?

Vixyswillie, you might get some good training recommendations from other local divers at wiscuba.com -- the online forum for Wisconsin divers. Personally I would recommend doing the pool and classroom work locally and then doing the certification dives in the ocean. That way you you can...

I dove in Door County several times last Summer. You should post this message on the wiscuba.com website. Someone there may be able to provide an update on conditions.
