    Why isn't DIR universally metric?

You would have to be pretty messed up to mix up 35m and 35feet. It took a few dives to get used to the different numbers for me, but now it's second nature.

    Why isn't DIR universally metric?

Why anyone is still using imerial is beyond me, all I can think of is the old dog new trick thing. Or maybe because the french invented it? DIR divers could be on the forefront of change but I think many people don't see the point.

    Are you still imperial?

OK maybe it's 12L for 100 cu feet. or maybe 10L my biggest problem is having to convert at all. Even manufacturers web sites have different info sometimes. That is where I got my original conversion from and it would appear I was wrong. But I know how long I can stay at any given depth with my...

    Are you still imperial?

I live in Canada, and dive all metric. My tanks are 100 cu feet 3600psi in metric they would be 10l 232bar. a 12l tank would be 130 cu feet 300 bar wow that's a lot of pressure. 1 bar equals 14.7psi so your tank is good for 4400 psi. hope this helps

SeaQuest Raider, pls let me know what you think about this BC

Back plates and wings seem to be the thing everybody dives these days, I recently switched to a Halcyon backplate and 30lb bladder, on a single steel tank. Biggest drawback is the weight out of the water, and it's not as comfortable diving, but you can't beat the buoyancy control and trim it...

Do you dive with a snorkel?

Never mind PADI what do the DIR people have to say about this? As for me I wear a snorkel only when I have to, in other words on training dives with students. (rules are rules) I do a lot of current dives and I do not need any extra drag, not to mention getting snagged on someones fishing...

    Are you still imperial?

I would think the computer has the same accuracy in either mode. The issue here is which system do you want to use? I've seen manual gauges recently that have both units on them. So take your pick, stay within your limits and you'll be fine. I'm familiar with both systems but to me metric...

    What about solo dives?

Wether I am solo or with a buddy I treat every dive the same. "Be ready to bail yourself out of trouble if you need to." If there's no buddy I put solo dive in my log book.

    Max. depth on Air

Personally I've been to 200 feet on air without major problems. It wasn't much fun, narcosis just about disabled me. How deep you go depends on training I dive enriched air if I'm shallow, above 60feet, and want extend my bottom time or dive at altitude to make my profile more conservative...

    Should C-Cards Expire?

I think a good option is a mandatory refresher for inactive divers. As it is now you can get excellent training do nothing for a year, then a half hour poolsession and off you go destroying a reef or hurting yourself and your buddy. Practice makes perfect even the best training can take you so...

Refunds for Students who Can't pass O/W?

Our dive center doesn't give refunds, but they will let you repeat the class free. If there is any hope maybe even more, although that never happened yet. People either pass after the second try or give up. The money is for the course not the certification.

    Compass Location?

I bought this new gadget from suunto that puts my compass on a retractor. The coolest thing since sliced bread, well almost. It keeps the compass close and out of harms way, the retractor cable is coated stainless steel. I've used it for around 50 dives so far without any problems.

SeaQuest Raider, pls let me know what you think about this BC

I own one and I love it, only drawback is the price. I work for a diveshop and get discounts otherwise I would have opted for something a little more rasonable. If your wallet can handle it, go for it.

Out of Air Emergencies - what are the principal causes?

After 600 dives I've only been out of air once, my regulator froze in 125 feet. I grabbed my buddies alternate and shut my tank off. By the time we got to the safety stop my regs had thawed and everything was cool. Running out of air, or low can be serious but doesn't have to be an emergency...

I need some dive-saftey-nazis to yell at me.

Everything has been said that needs to be said. I can only say go diving! Next time you feel work gets in the way, remember that's how you pay for going diving.

    Carrying a Dive flag

It's not a good idea to tie the flag to yourself, a while back some guy tried top pull me out of the water. He thought the flag was lost. I use one of those plastic extension cord reels for 4 bucks at walmart and a quarter inch nylon rope. Most times I use an anchor and don't bother towing it
