Welcome to the scuba board! I'd love to visit South Africa someday, particularly interested in Jay Bay... bit of a dream surf spot for me, and I'm sure the diving is good too.
I have the perfect suit for you. Cressi makes a 5mm suit that is flat out awesome! Its the Comfort 5mm suit. When they say it's stretchy.. they mean it. I've used this in water temps in the high 60's and have been comfortable. I'm pretty lean so I get cold easier than most so that's saying...
I'd also have a look at the Akona 7mm suit. Layer this with a hooded vest by Pinnacle, it's supposed to rock! I have the 7mm akona suit and absolutely love it. The size chart is as close as you could expect, so follow it closely. With these two I think you'll be good.
Sounds good. I'll have to check those out. I think I've tried almost every mask we sell, as it is one area I like to experiment with. Thanks for the detailed response.
Scubaman, welcome to the scuba board..... if you haven't already, check out the forums for that area, and perhaps someone may be of assistance? I haven't been there, but props to you for looking for something fun to do while you are there :)
Mike, welcome to the scuba board.... Can't really chim in about living or visiting St. Louis, but I sure enjoyed your baseball team this year! I'm a big David Eksein fan. He played ball for the Angels, and I watched him during the 2002 world series.... anyway.. back to scuba! You are going to...
Mudhole is right on point. There is no better place to get up to date info from very informative people. I've learned a ton here... oh.. and welcome to the best scuba forum on the net :)
I would also take a look at the Cressi Pro Star fin. They don't specifically spell out womens sizes but, I know that a womens size 6 = 4.5 in mens and womens size 7 = 5.5 in mens. (had to google that one).
check them out here if you'd like. http://www.onestopscuba.com/product/PROSTAR.

Congrats on getting certified dispite your diabetes! You rock. Welcome to the scuba board! Love to help... but can't, but I'm sure you'll find someone soon enough.
IMHO. The two computers are very similiar except for one thing. Hoseless Air integration. The VT Pro has it, the Atmos 2 doesn't. So you need to decide if having a digital readout of your air is worth the extra $250, otherwise you are left to the analog style.
I dive with a Atmos 2 wrist...
Taxgeek,
The only thing I can think of is when you put the suit on and off. If your anything like me, i tend to pull on the thigh area you discribed when getting into and out of the suit. I have gotten some similar wear patterns in my suits from that, both surfing and diving suits.
So if...
