Hi all,

I'm David. I'm married w/ 2 young kids and live in the NYC / Connecticut area. A month or two ago I got a bug to learn scuba so I started the PADI OW course. This weekend I'll go to Marathon Key for a trip with my instructor and some other guys to get: OW, AOW, Nitrox certs. I'm going to be very wet (9 dives in 3 days), but I am really looking forward to getting out of the swimming pool! :D I'll let you know what I think once I come back, of course.

I'm real jealous of you people who live in certain parts of FL and can just wander over to a beach when ever you want!

Unfortunately the rest of the family doesn't swim much (or at all, for the kids) but we liked the Caribbean even without diving. We had a trip to Venezuela and in addition to seeing Caracas (it's gotta be the world's most perfect climate, near the equator at 3000 feet altitude in a mountain valley) we went touring around the little islands of Los Roques in their 15 foot motorboats. That's when I started wishing I was all certified and able to pop off and do some scuba. So I hope to talk the family into more Carib. vacations once I'm certified, then I can peel off for a morning or afternoon of diving. Maybe in the warm weather I'll do some wreck diving off the coast around here; the people in my OW course have been talking a lot about that.

Congratulation on your OW certification

Congratulations & welcome to the gang. Sounds like your next few vacations are going to be wet ones. Good luck!

Love your enthusiasm.

Thanks for the reminder oh Dandy one, done that now. Pictures? I'll dig one up sometime ...

The reason I'm doing 3 certs on this trip is:
If I just do OW cert I go to FL for 2 1/2 days of which I dive for about 1 1/4 days.
If I do AOW too I pay a little more money and get 5 more dives over an extra day. I go for 3 1/2 days and dive for 2 1/2 daya.
If I do Nitrox I pay even a little more money, study a bit and take the test (this is done now), then do the exact same thing as just AOW. The instructor will arrange Nitrox tanks instead of air for 2 of the dives. And I have more waterproof tables to ignore in favor of the computer.

I'll still be inexperienced but at least I'll be able to rent Nitrox filled tanks and get longer dives etc.
