I'm flying into Cabo in a couple weeks and it looks like it's around the time there are hammerheads there and in La Paz (obviously no guarantee). If it were you where would you dive out of, Cabo, La Paz or do dives in both places since they're close enough? I don't care about nightlife, I'm really just interested in the best diving and I'd really like to see a bunch of hammerheads. I'm AOW certified and have all my own gear if that matters.

I am flying into Cabo dec 16 with plans to rent a car and drive to la paz and dive. I was trying to find info on shore dives but so far nothing. I have been told la paz is the better diving.

I decided to just dive Cabo only. I've heard La Paz is better too, but the boat rides are long. I think 2+ hours to that island (isla espritu?). And you have no service on them which doesn't work as well for me since I have no true days off from work

If anyone is interested on diving in Cabo Pulmo, you can contact us at

We provide high quality services in all Sea of Cortes, for diving/safaris.

Yes if anyone sees any hammers around the Cabo / sea of Cortez area I’d love to hear about it. It’s sounded to me like they’ve either been fished out or condoned the area.
Will there be hammers at the end of Sept. around Cabo, or La Paz?

We're thinking to go from Cabo to La Paz to dive/snorkel with sea lions Oct. 1. But if there are hammers, I'd love to dive to see them.

Between what I have heard and experienced first hand, hammerheads do not like warm water (>85 degrees). The Sea of Cortez is reaching peak temperature around end of September/early October so I would not expect to see hammers unless you're very deep, and then only fleeting sightings.

La Paz has more options and better diving but I would not count on seeing any hammerheads.

Curious who did you rent the car with and was there any issues? There are some people saying the car rentals can have rip offs, and there are corrupt cops trying to fine/extort foreigners, and some gas stations have scams (message that credit card payment don't work, want payment in cash. But CC charged)

We pre booked the car through budget and thought our travel credit cards would cover the insurance. Nope the people at budget won't let you take a vehicle without their insurance unless you pay a huge amount more for the car without insurance. I'd say either rebook the car and buy the insurances online before you go or look at another company. We had no issuse with cops, gas or paying with credit. We also bought oxxo sim cards for roughly $20 and they were good for 15 days of data and calls
