Yeah me too after a long break from diving. Normally I use the first day of diving to really just settle back into my gear and get my breathing technique sorted. By the second day I am normally back in my zone. If I can start with my first dives being a sac rate of around 10l/min and then dropping down to my normal 8l/min in gentle diving I will be happy. I have not had covid so hoping I also don't get it on my vacation. Best thing for me is to find tiny critters to photo where I need to be motionless with no bubble trails.
My SAC rate was great on my OW dives because I wasn’t nervous. First post cert dive, it was way higher because of my anxiety. So yeah, it takes me a few dives after a break to relax especially if I’m going w/ a new buddy.
Getting used to gear is so fun…not…

For me diving is like a therapy treatment. Once I'm in the water I can really relax and not think about anything and get my mind off my business and life etc. My mind goes blank, my breathing slows down to 4 to 5 breaths a minute, I try to let any current carry me and use my lungs to make small depth changes. Bliss.

One of my biggest regrets of that dive is not letting myself relax. I was too worked up trying to be perfect. Should’ve just enjoyed the dive.

I read your thread. For me diving brings a calmness to me that some may get from meditating. Some people do drugs or other things, I do diving. I don't try to be perfect, I may not always stay in perfect trim lol But my buoyancy is masterclass thankfully from a great instructor. This thread I started was a lot of fun. How not to be perfect really lol

I’d wanted to be a technical diver, so wouldn’t accept anything less than perfection from myself. Wish I’d just enjoyed the dive. Maybe I should start drugs 🤣 jk.

I never even thought about perfect trim being uncomfortable. Though I hate craning my neck to look at things

What is a technical diver? Someone who does deco dives? Did that with BSAC in the 1980's. Advanced Nitrox and mixed gasses to 100 O2? Not there yet later this year TDI ANDP. I don't want to do CCR or cave or wreck penetration diving courses happy dawdling around the outside of wrecks and most caves, but not all. Love is the drug for you.

Yeah I wanted to do deco dives and cave dives. Well, love is a drug, sure- I love diving.

Deco Diving is still recreational diving always has been. Cave penetration yes needs special training and skills. Not something that I have an interest in.

I hope you get cleared for diving.
