I'm curious too. My buddy and I looked at them when they were offering some pretty deep discounts, but I felt kindof wimpy about the political state of Sudan. I don't think the boat docked there, but it was close enough to make me nervous. Your mileage may vary of course.
The M/S Royal Evolution will resume its own operations as it used to since 2006.

She will be offering four itineraries starting today, all out of from Port Ghalib - Egypt:
- Sudan out of Egypt out from Egypt “ Thirteen nights “ .
- Deep south Sudan out from Egypt “ Thirteen nights ”.
- Egypt / Sudan border ( Elba Reef ) – 7 Nights onboard.
- Red Sea Grand tour “Seven nights” ( Brothers, Deadalus, Rocky, Zabargad & St.John )

I want to do all of these itineraries :)

According to the website there are some hefty fees to be paid on board. Can those be paid by credit card?

Obligatory surcharges
Sudan Entry Visa for all nationalities : 225 USD per trip, to be paid on board
Fuel surcharge : 660 EUR per trip, to be paid in advance
Sudan local tax : 490 EUR per trip, to be paid on board
Sudan entry visa for American citizens : 275 USD per trip, to be paid on board

So the total cost of the Sudan trip is $4242 and for the Deep South Sudan trip $4633. For 2 weeks of great diving, this is quite a bargain. What are you complaining about?

I'd make it 3 weeks since one never knows if they can go back and dive in Sudan again because of the potential political instability there. That's what I would do myself.

The extra fees are hefty indeed still. I hope that the diving makes it worth it.

As with everything else in the world , worth it, is subjective. We have been to N. Sudan trip and South Sudan and are scheduled to go back to South Sudan in May 2023. Even with the extra fees it is very reasonable when you compare to other LOBS in unique locations. At least in our experience.

What makes you say I’m complaining? That’s $700+ USD in fees, if that needs to be cash that requires extra planning. I never travel with large amounts of cash for safety reasons so if I’m expected to show up with that much cash to a liveaboard I’d like to know in advance.

In Port Sudan meeting with Govt. representatives on the boat you pay in Euro for the first set of fees if you are from USA you also get to pay the Euro fees along with more fees in USD, cash only !!! I have done this on 2 trips but atleast we dont have to let them shove a swab up our noses, for now anyway!!!
